The studydescribesthepossibilityofapplicationofself-organizingmapstechniquetoassessthe greenness ofanalyticalmethodologies.Themetrologicaland “environmentalimpact” parametersof proceduresforbenzeneandphenoldeterminationinwatersamplesweresetsofinputdatafor chemometric analysis.Totally47objectsand8variablesformedthedatausedforanalysis.Themajor factors responsiblefornon-greencharacterofthemethodologyaretheamountoforganicsolventand amount ofsolidwastesformed.TheresultsoftheassessmentmethodswithNEMIsymbolsandEco-scale are ingoodagreement.Greenerproceduresforbenzeneandphenoldeterminationarethosebasedon SPME. IncaseofphenolthemethodologiesbasedonGCseparationaremuchgreenerthanthosebased on LC.Theresultsalsoshowthatitiseasiertoapplygreenmethodologiesforbenzene, asacompound with lowerpolarityandhencewithlessaffinity to,thanforphenol.TheSOMassessmentmethodology can beusefulinchoosingtheproperanalyticalprocedures.
