In the paper the newest researches and applications of treatment wetlands conducted by re-searchers of Civil and Environmental Faculty are presented. Among others it was proved that this technology could be successfully implemented for highly polluted wastewater treatment. Within the research project two multistage treatment wetlands, one for landfill leachate and the second for reject water from digested sewage sludge centrifugation, were built in 2008 year. The research covers design, construction and investigation of pollutants efficiency re-moval. Within the research project Innovative Solutions for Wastewater Management in Rural Areas (financed by Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education E033/P01/2008/02 and EOG Financial Mechanism and Norwegian Financial Mechanism PL0271) the conception of sewage treatment and sewage sludge utilization at the TWs for individual households in a rural area was created. Within the project, nine individual treatment wetland were built with three different configurations to estimate their efficiency removal in accordance with local conditions. applied technology enables to close the cycle of water and organic substances in the what is well with the state of agenda 21.Also, investigation of organic matter transformation and accumulation were conducted. Among other the investigations of the quality and quantity of refractory (recalcitrant) sub-stances (similar to humic acids) in sewage treated by conventional and natural technology, were performed. Finally, the application of constructed wetlands for treatment of stormwater from urban areas and research plans regarding analyses of TSS granulometry are presented.
