2014 JOURNAL OF PHYSICS B-ATOMIC MOLECULAR AND OPTICAL PHYSICS

Formation of the excited CN(B2∑+) free radicals in the photodissociation of pyridine (C5H5N) and pyrimidine (C4H4N2) molecules was investigated over the energy ranges 16–27 and 14.7–25 eV, respectively. Photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy was applied to detect the vibrationally and rotationally excited CN radicals by recording the B2∑+→X2∑+ emission bands (violet system). The measured dissociation yield curves demonstrate that the CN(B2∑+) formation occurs via excitation of pyridine and pyrimidine molecules into higher-lying superexcited states. This is followed by rearrangement and isomerization of the excited molecules before dissociation. The vertical excitation energies of the superexcited states were determined and the probable dissociation mechanisms of both molecules are discussed.

  • Four-Port Circulator Using Reduced Ground Plane Ferrite Coupled Line Junction
    • Wojciech Marynowski
    • Adam Kusiek
    • Jerzy Mazur
    2014

In this paper the investigations of four-port circula-tor using longitudinally magnetized ferrite coupled line section are presented. The device is designed by cascading ferrite section with magic-T junction ensuring its even and odd mode excitation. The scattering parameters of ferrite coupled line junction are calculated using own software and verified with the use of commercial software. The even and odd excitation of ferrite section is realized from multilayer magic-T junction designed using commercial software. The simulation results were obtained by cascading S-matrices of the ferrite and magic-T junctions. The results were verified by the measurement of the manufactured prototype. The measured results clearly show nonreciprocal behavior of the designed four-port circulator.

  • FPGA realization of an improved alpha max plus beta min algorithm
    • Robert Smyk
    • Maciej Czyżak
2014 Full text Poznan University of Technology Academic Journals. Electrical Engineering

The generalized improved version of the alpha max plus beta min square-rooting algorithm and its realization in the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) are presented. The algorithm computes the square root to calculate the approximate magnitude of a complex sample. It is especially useful for pipelined calculations in the DSP. In case of four approximation regions it is possible to reduce the peak error form 3.95% to 0.33%. This is attained by determination of the approximate ratio of arguments and adequate selection of algorithm coefficients. Four approximation regions are used and hence four sets of coefficients. Also a Xilinx FPGA implementation for 12-bit sign magnitude numbers is shown.

  • Fractional neutron point kinetics equations for nuclear reactor dynamics – Numerical solution investigations
    • Tomasz Nowak
    • Kazimierz Duzinkiewicz
    • Robert Piotrowski
    2014 ANNALS OF NUCLEAR ENERGY

This paper presents results concerning numerical solutions to a fractional neutron point kinetics model for a nuclear reactor. The paper discusses and expands on results presented in (Espinosa-Paredes et al., 2011). The fractional neutron point kinetics model with six groups of delayed neutron precursors was developed and a numerical solution using the Edwards’ method was proposed (Edwards et al., 2002). The mathematical model was implemented in the Matlab environment and tested using typical step input change. Experimental evaluation of numerical stability was complemented by an analysis of the effect selected model parameters have on obtained results.

  • Fractional problems with advanced arguments
    • Tadeusz Jankowski
    2014 APPLIED MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTATION

This paper concerns boundary fractional differential problems with advanced arguments. We investigate the existence of initial value problems when the initial point is given at the end point of an interval. Nonhomogeneous linear fractional differential equations are also studied. The existence of solutions for fractional differential equations with advanced arguments and with boundary value problems has been investigated by using a monotone iterative technique. We also discuss corresponding fractional inequalities. Several examples illustrate the results.

  • Fracture mechanics model of cutting power versus widespread regression equations while wood sawing with circular saw blades
    • Kazimierz Orłowski
    • Tomasz Ochrymiuk
2014 Full text Annals of WULS, Forestry and Wood Technology

A comparison of the theoretical cutting power consumption results forecasted with the model (FM_CM model) which include work of separation (fracture toughness) in addition to plasticity and friction, and two widespread regression equations while wood sawing with circular saw blades has been described. in and cutting power consumption forecasted. In computations of the cutting power consumption during rip sawing of Scots pine wood (Pinus sylvestris L.) of the Baltic Natural Forest Region (PL) provenance values of fracture toughness and shear yield stresses were taken from previous empirical works. The carried out analyses revealed a lack of conformity of the results obtained with regression equations if compared with the FM_CM model.

  • Framework Reuse - Heaven or Hell
    • Jarosław Kuchta
    2014

Object-oriented frameworks have almost completely dominated the world of business applications. Frameworks are widely considered to be helpful and are designed to speed up creation of applications. However, when trying to apply a framework for a particular application, it often turns out that this is not as easy as it seemed at the beginning. It takes time to become familiar with the framework, with its concepts and the standard way of use. Afterwards it often appears that the standard way of using the framework, provided by the authors, do not fully fit for the application. Developers try to match a solution to the existing structure and behavior of the framework. If business requirements to the application are higher than capabilities provided by the framework, The developers try to match the existing framework to save the application. This is what can be called “framework hell”. Time is running out, and eventually one may find that the chosen framework should not ever be used in the current application despite the initial similarities to the application requirements. This paper presents a brief analysis of the main problems with the adjustment and reuse of frameworks. The analysis results from three years of the author's experience in framework reuse, particularly with frameworks supporting generation of applications based on Web services in ASP.NET technology. However, the author’s experience can be extended to other frameworks, as it results in a number of guidelines to be followed by framework developers to enable other developers to use frameworks in non-standard applications.

  • Franchising jako instrument aktywizacji ekonomicznej podmiotów na rynku
    • Anna Rzeczycka
    • Gabriela Golawska-Witkowska
2014 Full text Przedsiębiorstwo we współczesnej gospodarce - teoria i praktyka

A direct analysis of the task of randomness amplification from Santha-Vazirani sources using the violation of the chained Bell inequality is performed in terms of the convex combination of no-signaling boxes required to simulate quantum violation of the inequality. This analysis is used to find the exact threshold value of the initial randomness parameter from which perfect randomness can be extracted in the asymptotic limit of a large number of measurement settings. As a byproduct, we provide a tool for the analysis of randomness amplification protocols, namely a general characterization of the probability distributions of bits generated by Santha-Vazirani sources, which are shown

  • Frequently updated noise threat maps created with use of supercomputing grid

    2014 Full text Noise Mapping

An innovative supercomputing grid services devoted to noise threat evaluation were presented. The services described in this paper concern two issues, first is related to the noise mapping, while the second one focuses on assessment of the noise dose and its influence on the human hearing system. The discussed services were developed within the PL-Grid Plus Infrastructure which accumulates Polish academic supercomputer centers. Selected experimental results achieved by the usage of the services proposed were presented. The assessment of the environmental noise threats includes creation of the noise maps using either offline or online data, acquired through a grid of the monitoring stations. A concept of estimation of the source model parameters based on the measured sound level for the purpose of creating frequently updated noise maps was presented. Connecting the noise mapping grid service with a distributed sensor network enables to automatically update noise maps for a specified time period. Moreover, a unique attribute of the developed software is the estimation of the auditory effects evoked by the exposure to noise. The estimation method uses a modified psychoacoustic model of hearing and is based on the calculated noise level values and on the given exposure period. Potential use scenarios of the grid services for research or educational purpose were introduced. Presentation of the results of predicted hearing threshold shift caused by exposure to excessive noise can raise the public awareness of the noise threats.

  • Funkcjonowanie skrzyżowań z wyspą centralną ze zmienną wielkością wewnętrznych powierzchni akumulacji
    • Lucyna Gumińska
    • Wojciech Kustra

  • Further Developments of the Online Sound Restoration System for Digital Library Applications
    • Janusz Cichowski
    • Adam Kupryjanow
    • Andrzej Czyżewski
    2014

New signal processing algorithms were introduced to the online service for audio restoration available at the web address: www.youarchive.net. Missing or distorted audio samples are estimated using a specific implementation of the Jannsen interpolation method. The algorithm is based on the autoregressive model (AR) combined with the iterative complementation of signal samples. Since the interpolation algorithm is computationally complex, an implementation which uses parallel computing has been proposed. Many archival and homemade recordings are at the same time clipped and contain wideband noise. To restore those recordings, the algorithm based on the concatenation of signal clipping reduction and spectral expansion was proposed. The clipping reduction algorithm uses interpolation to replace distorted samples with the estimated ones. Next, spectral expansion is performed in order to reduce the overall level of noise. The online service has been extended also with some copyright protection mechanisms. Certain issues related to the audio copyright problem are discussed with regards to low-level music feature vectors embedded as watermarks. Then, algorithmic issues pertaining watermarking techniques are briefly recalled. The architecture of the designed system along with the employed workflow for embedding and extracting the watermark are described. The implementation phase is presented and the experimental results are reported. The chapter is concluded with a presentation of experimental results of application of described algorithmic extensions to the online sound restoration service.

  • Fuzzy Methods and Models for a Team-Building Process
    • Irena Bach-Dąbrowska
    2014

This chapter contains an introduction to fuzzy-logic model-based approaches for a team-building process. Such appraches allow extending typical recruiting practice and selection processes to enable a wider and more precise assessment of a new team and/or existing team members, taking into account both their hard and soft skills. Moreover, as effectiveness of teams depends on the interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence of their individual memebers, the discussed models emphasize the value of behavioral criteria that are condutive to team cohension.

  • Fuzzy regresion approach to road safety analysis at regional level
    • Leszek Smolarek
    • Joanna Wachnicka
2014 Journal of Polish Safety and Reliability Association, Summer Safety and Reliability Seminars

Road safety modelling on regional level of NUTS 2 in the EU is the complex issue and authors of this article indicate this in previous publications. NUTS 2 are basic regions for the application of regional policies (0.8-3 m inhabitants). During multivariate models development they discovered that it is difficult to make regression model well described all regions, even if they are from one country. In the first step Poisson model of road fatality rate as fatalities per 100 thou of citizens was prepared. In this article the fuzzy regression approach, estimating lower and upper bounds of the modeled value, is presented.

    • Jan Wajs
    • Jarosław Mikielewicz
2014 Full text Journal of Power Technologies

This analysis considers a commercially available domestic gas boiler as a heat source for a domestic organic Rankine cycle system. An experimental study was made into the applicability of the gas boiler (De Dietrich with thermal power 25 kW) coupled with the laboratory prototype micro ORC setup. The main aim of the study is to determine the working fluid temperature, attainable heat rates and effciencies of the whole system. Preliminary investigations show that the boiler was able to provide saturated/superheated vapor of ethanol and HFE-7100 as a working fluid at the required conditions needed in the ORC system and it can be utilized as a heat source in a domestic micro-CHP. The results should ncourage future development of micro cogeneration units.
