Russian companies on foreign stock markets: alternative to domestic market?

First aim of this study is to present the main aspects of the Russian stock market, including obstacles for local companies and investors. Second aim is presentation of the Russian companies listed on foreign stock exchanges. In order to perform such analysis, descriptive statistics and information about qualitative features were used. Assessment of the Russian stock market’s development level covered 2003-2012 time period. According to the performed analysis, Russian stock market, despite relatively high development level in some aspects, copes with many problems such as high concentration level or high percentage of listed companies from only a few sectors, mostly industries linked with commodities. Another important barrier is undeveloped and ineffective financial supervision system. As a result, Russian companies choose foreign markets to raise capital through stock offerings, as evidenced by considerable capitalization and liquidity of Russian stocks listed abroad (mostly in London) but also, above all, by increasing relative value of foreign IPOs. This paper is valuable due to the fact Russian stock market is mostly neglected in research. Moreover, Russian companies listed abroad are almost absent as a separate research subject because they are usually treated as a part of the stock market in the country of their listing.

Rynki akcji w krajach BRIC: podobieństwa i różnice

Kraje BRIC (Brazylia, Rosja, Indie i Chiny) stały się w ostatnich latach ważną częścią globalnego systemu gospodarczego i finansowego. Kraje te różnią się jednak istotnie pod względem osiągniętych poziomów rozwoju gospodarczego, w tym w sferze finansowej. Celem tekstu jest omówienie i porównanie zmian w krajach BRIC w pierwszych kilkunastu latach XXI w., które miały miejsce na jednej z najważniejszych części systemu finansowego, tj. na rynkach akcji. Analiza podobieństw i różnic objęła wieloaspektowe zmiany poziomu rozwoju rynków akcji w zakresie wielkości, płynności, giełd papierów wartościowych i otoczenia regulacyjnego. Przeprowadzona analiza może być podstawą do określenia, na ile uzasadnione jest, opierając się na kryterium cech rynków akcji, łączenie opisanych gospodarek w jedną grupę.

SafeCity – a GIS-based tool profiled for supporting decision making in urban development and infrastructure protection

This paper presents a system for analysis of municipal Critical Infrastructures, which offers integrated tools for target analysis, hazard scenario simulations and spatial analysis within a remotely accessible Web-based Geographic Information System. The system has been applied to research conducted in the city of Gdansk with the aid of blast attack, chemical leakage and flood hazard scenarios, as well as a spatial density algorithm, which highlights events in which the proximity of infrastructures influences their susceptibility to a single attack. The paper also discusses the way in which the tools provided by the system aim to assist in the processes of infrastructure vulnerability assessment, mitigating discovered risks as well as strategic planning of city development.

Safety of erection and repair of steel tanks with geometric imperfections using heavylift jack-up system

Safety analysis is performed of cylindrical vertical steel tanks during erection using heavylift jack up system. During an assembly or repair process a set of hydraulic supports is used. It allows to use the in-place lifting of heavy steel constructions on the required height. Wind can strongly influence stability of the lifted tank. Any geometric imperfections can reduce the critical or limit load. In the work failures of the hydraulic supports were considered. The geometric imperfections were described as free vibration shapes and implemented in the finite element models. Additionally, the influence of random discrepancies around the jack supports on the tank mechanical behaviour was analysed.

Samotestowanie toru analogowego ze wzmacniaczem w pełni różnicowym w elektronicznych systemach wbudowanych sterowanych mikrokontrole-rami

Przedstawiono nową metodę samotestowania toru analogowego opartego na wzmacniaczu w pełni różnicowym w elektronicznych systemach wbu-dowanych sterowanych mikrokontrolerami. Bazuje ona na nowej metodzie diagnostycznej opartej na przekształceniu transformującym próbki odpo-wiedzi czasowej badanej części analogowej na pobudzenie "ujemnym" impulsem prostokątnym na wejściu Vocm na krzywe identyfikacyjne w przestrzeni pomiarowej. Metoda ta pozwala na detekcję i lokalizację pojedynczych uszkodzeń parametrycznych w układach analogowych.

SAMPLE-AND-HOLDING METHOD FOR GAS SENSING APPLIED FOR RESISTANCE GAS SENSORS

The DC resistance of a Taguchi gas sensor is influenced by the ambient gas. To improve the selectivity and sensitivity of a sensor the fluctuation enhanced sensing (FES) was used. The paper proposes a novel methodology of utilizing FES technique that sample composition of an ambient atmosphere and hold it for further processing (sample-and-holding technique). The method uses the heated gas sensor to sample an ambient atmosphere and after cooling to room temperature the gas molecules are kept frozen during the subsequent measurements. A special sample-and-holding computer-controlled system has been constructed for noise data acquisition. The experimental results enabled to determine the optimal measurement conditions for achieving a substantial information about the ambient atmosphere for cooled sensor.

Satellite pump and motor

The article describe the design and operation of a prototype of satellite pump and a prototype of satellite motor. In both machines, the operating mechanism consists of a non-circular gear with external teeth (rotor), non-circular gear with internal teeth (curvature), and ten gear wheels which cooperate with the rotor and the curvature. The differences between the commutation unit in the pump and the commutation unit in the motor are described. The principle of axial clearances compensation in the pump and in the motor is also presents. The article contains the values of the losses and the efficiency of these machines supplied with rapeseed oil, HFA-E emulsion and pure tap water. The results of durability tests of motor supplied with HFA-E emulsion and rapeseed oil are also presented.

Praca ma charakter badawczy i jej celem jest poszukiwanie efektów mediacyjnych w sytuacji, gdy między cechami serwisów WWW a lojalnością występują satysfakcja i zaufanie jako mediatory. Do analizy tych efektów użyto metody PLS-SEM, która pozwoliła na wykrycie czterech efektów pośrednich, trzech prostych i jednego szeregowego.

Zawiera również porównanie katalogów typowych nawierzchni z Austrii, Francji, Niemiec i Wielkiej Brytanii z katalogiem polskim.

Secondary emission influenced fluorescence decay of a homogeneous fluorophore solution

An analytical expression is found allowing the calculation of the secondary emission influenced fluorescence decay of a homogeneous fluorophore solution. Before starting the calculation one has to know the shape of the primary fluorescence decay of the fluorophore and the value of the parameter kappa denoting the ratio of the secondary to primary steady-state fluorescence intensities. The method elaborated by Budo and Ketskemety is recommended for evaluation of the parameter kappa. The main importance of the obtained expression is that it can be used to recover parameters characterizing the fluorescence decay in the absence of secondary emission. The cases of monoexponential, biexponential and multiexponential primary fluorescence decays are discussed in detail.

Security aspects in functional safety analysis

A security level of distributed control and protection system may have a significant impact on the results of functional safety analysis. However, the issue of integrating the safety and security aspects is difficult and usually is neglected during the functional safety analysis. This article presents a method of functional safety analysis which takes into consideration a concept of integrating these two aspects. It is based on proposed classification of communication channels used in the computer system / network and the scope of such system distribution. The functional safety analysis is to be performed at every stage of system lifecycle, but one of the most important parts is defining required safety functions and determining the safety integrity level for them. The integration concept might be taken into account at this stage. The basis of a method proposed is the assumption that the security level is considered as a risk parameter in graphs of functional safety analyses.

Security information sharing for smart grids: Developing the right data model

The smart grid raises new security concerns which require novel solutions. It is commonly agreed that to protect the grid the effective collaboration and information sharing between the relevant stakeholders is prerequisite. Developing a security information sharing platform for the smart grid is a new research direction which poses several challenges related to the highly distributed and heterogeneous character of the grid. In this paper an approach to developing a data model for security information sharing platform for the smart grid which responds to these questions is presented together with the results of its application.

Sektor usług odgrywa coraz ważniejszą rolę w gospodarce światowej, a także w gospodarkach poszczególnych krajów. Również gospodarka polska ulega pod tym względem istotnym przeobrażeniom. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie stanu i rozwoju sektora usług w ostatnich latach w Polsce na tle innych, wybranych krajów na świecie. Scharakteryzowane zostały najważniejsze wskaźniki obrazujące sektor usług w Polsce, takie jak liczba pracujących, czy udział w wartości dodanej brutto. Pokazano również strukturę polskiego sektora usług, a także porównano sytuację do wybranych krajów na świecie.
