2013 Full text ACTA CRYSTALLOGRAPHICA SECTION E-STRUCTURE REPORTS ONLINE

The structure of the title compound, [C12H24NO4][C7H7O3S]·1.5H2O, contains alternating layers parallel to (001) of hydrophobic and polar character, stabilized by C-H...O hydrogen bonding. The furan ring adopts an envelope conformation with the C(OMe) atom as the flap, and the dioxolane ring is twisted about one of the O-C(methine) bonds. A comparison to related compounds is presented. The tosylate-O atoms were disordered over two positions with the major component having a site occupancy factor = 0.566 (12). The structure was refined as a rotary twin with regard to rotation about the c axis with the contribution of the second component being 0.0048 (6). Solvate water molecules are highly disordered and were removed using the SQUEEZE procedure; the unit cell characteristics take into account the presence of the disordered solvent. High-resolution 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopic data are also presented

We deal with families of probability distributions satisfying non-signalling condition, called non-signalling boxes and consider a class of operations that transform local boxes into local ones (the one that admit LHV model). We prove that any operation from this class cannot broadcast a bipartite non-local box with 2 binary inputs and outputs. We consider a function called anti-Robustness which can not decrease under these operations. The proof reduces to showing that anti-Robustness would decrease after broadcasting

  • Noise measurements on low noise pavements - problems with inhomogeneity of wearing course
    • Piotr Mioduszewski
    • Władysław Gardziejczyk
    2013

During the last several years, when performing numerous CPX noise measurements on low noise pavements, significant inhomogeneity of the wearing course was observed in numerous cases. Similar problems were almost not existing regarding to the dense pavements. In general three main reasons of inhomogeneity can be defined. The first one are imperfections in technology of production of a asphalt mix or/and errors made already during the laying process of the wearing course. The second is clogging that takes place during operation of the pavement. The third reason is related to uneven and/or excessive wear of the pavement (ravelling and stripping of the aggregate may appear in this case). The findings of analysis of noise data acquired on low noise pavements (based on 10m long segments) during measurements performed by the Gdansk University of Technology was presented and discussed in the paper. Problems related to the selection of representative section of inhomogeneous pavement when calculating the CPX Index were also discussed. Additionally, results of noise measurements of inhomogeneous wearing course performed by the Bialystok University of Technology using SPB method were presented. The influence of selection of SPB measuring point within the length of inhomogeneous pavement section was discussed.

  • Noninvasive method for rotor fault diagnosis in inverter fed induction motor drive
    • Piotr Kołodziejek
    2013

This article presents a proposal, simulation and experimental results of a noninvasive rotor fault diagnosis method for the inverter fed induction motor drive. Comparing to reported methods the proposed one does not require any load, rotor brake, slip, mechanical or electrical system physical modification e.g. machine disassembly and can be applied regardless the rotor speed measurement or estimation method.

  • Non-isolating 2-bondage in graphs
    • Marcin Krzywkowski
2013 Full text JOURNAL OF THE MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN

A 2-dominating set of a graph G=(V,E) is a set D of vertices of G such that every vertex of V(G)D has at least two neighbors in D. The 2-domination number of a graph G, denoted by gamma_2(G), is the minimum cardinality of a 2-dominating set of G. The non-isolating 2-bondage number of G, denoted by b_2'(G), is the minimum cardinality among all sets of edges E' subseteq E such that delta(G-E') >= 1 and gamma_2(G-E') > gamma_2(G). If for every E' subseteq E, either gamma_2(G-E') = gamma_2(G) or delta(G-E') = 0, then we define b_2'(G) = 0, and we say that G is a gamma_2-non-isolatingly strongly stable graph. First we discuss the basic properties of non-isolating 2-bondage in graphs. We find the non-isolating 2-bondage numbers for several classes of graphs. Next we show that for every non-negative integer there exists a tree having such non-isolating 2-bondage number. Finally, we characterize all gamma_2-non-isolatingly strongly stable trees.

  • Nonlinear Properties of Seawater as a Factor Determining Nonlinear Wave Propagation
    • Grażyna Grelowska
    2013

Taking practical advantage of nonlinear acoustical interactions occurring in seawater [1, 2] requires knowledge of the parameter of nonlinearity B=A of this medium. The literature does not offer much reports on B=A parameter value for seawater. In the few papers concerning that address the issue, results concerning ocean waters with high salinity and at large depths are given [3], while studies concerning seawater with low salinity are published extremely seldom [4, 5]. Waters of the southern Baltic are characterized with low salinity not exceeding 20 PSU, temperature varying from 0 C to about 20 C, and depth practically limited to 100 meters. For such conditions, B=A parameter value ranges from about 4.3 (t = 0 C, S = 0 PSU, p = 0 Pa) to about 5.15 (t = 20 C, S = 20 PSU, p = 106 Pa) [6]. This paper discusses the effect of nonlinearity of the medium on the course of phenomenon of propagation of a high-intensity (finite amplitude) wave in the case of both strong and weak nonlinear distortions with special attention paid to hydrological conditions prevailing in the Baltic Sea.

  • Non-linear strain rate analysis of earthquake-induced pounding between steel buildings
    • Barbara Sołtysik
    • Robert Jankowski
2013 International Journal of Earth Sciences and Engineering

Past and recent earthquakes have shown that ground motions may cause severe structural damage to civil engineering structures. Earthquake-induced pounding between adjacent buildings has been identified as one of the reasons which intensifies damages. The aim of this paper is to show the results of the detailed nonlinear FEM analysis of earthquake-induced pounding between two steel buildings. The elastic – perfectly plastic material properties have been implemented in the numerical model. The influence of the strain rate effect on the structural response, by relating the yield strength with the strain rate, has also been taken into consideration. The results of the study clearly indicate that pounding may substantially influence the response of steel buildings during earthquakes. In the case of the analysis conducted, it resulted in reduction in the response of both structures and lead to yielding of the ground storey columns of one of the buildings. The results of the study also indicate that incorporation the strain rate effect in the numerical model may lead to considerable differences in structural responses under ground motion excitation.

  • Normatywna zawartość architektury po-ponowoczesnej w świetle koncepcji rozumu komunikacyjnego Jurgena Habermasa
    • Piotr Czyż
    2013

  • Novel 5.1 Downmix Algorithm with Improved Dialogue Intelligibility
    • Kuba Łopatka
    • Bartosz Kunka
    • Andrzej Czyżewski
    2013

A new algorithm for 5.1 to stereo downmix is introduced, which addresses the problem of dialogue intelligibility. The algorithm utilizes proposed signal processing algorithms to enhance the intelligibility of movie dialogues, especially in difficult listening conditions or in compromised speaker setup. To account for the latter, a playback configuration utilizing a portable device, i.e. an ultrabook, is examined. The experiments are presented which confirm the efficiency of the introduced method. Both objective measurements and subjective listening tests were conducted. The new downmix algorithm is compared to the output of a standard downmix matrix method. The results of subjective tests prove that an improved dialogue intelligibility is achieved.

  • Novel method of lung area extraction in chest perfusion computed tomography
    • Renata Kalicka
    • Seweryn Lipiński
    • Maciej Browarczyk
    2013 BIOMEDIZINISCHE TECHNIK

Chest perfusion computed tomography (pCT) is a useful technique in the medical diagnosis of how organs function. Perfusion CT scans are used to calculate perfusion parameters. In the case of automated methods of lung perfusion parameters calculation, the prior extraction of the lung area is desired to avoid unnecessary calculation in an area outside the lung cross-section and to avoid wasting time on processing signals of no diagnostic importance. Our new method is designed to extract a lung cross-section from a whole series of chest pCT images. It uses a complete sequence of pCT scans to extract the rough lung contour. Next each scan is processed individually, within the rough contour, to obtain a detailed, individual outline of the lungs. The proposed method and obtained results are presented and compared with methods known in literature.

  • Novel Polyurethanes as Antifouling Paint Matrices
    • Justyna Kucińska-Lipka
    • Helena Janik
    • Iga Gubańska
2013 Full text Advances in Materials Science

The new poly(ester-ether urethane)s (PEEUR) were prepared in two stage synthesis from formerly obtained oligo(alkylene ester-ether)diols (OAEE) and 4,4‘-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI). PEEUR samples were subjected to crosslinking with styrene in the presence of radical polymerization initiators: methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKPO) or cobalt 2-ethyl cyclohexanoate (EtHCo). Crosslinked PEEUR were characterized by their physicochemical and mechanical properties. Tensile strength of crosslinked PEEURs was in the range 63-29 MPa, hardness values were from 92 to 97°ShA, and glass transition temperature was in the range 59-74°C. For PEEURs filled with biocides tensile strength was in the range 6,8-8,5MPa, hardness values were from 82 to 92°ShA, and glass transition temperature was in the range 57-72°C. Optical microscopic observations showed that the materials obtained were homogeneous in micrometric scale.

  • Novel primosomal protein B from Clostridium pasteurianum
    • Marta Śpibida
    • Marta Marszałkowska
    • Marcin Olszewski
    2013 Acta Biochimica Polonica

PriB is a primosomal protein that catalyzes DNA replication in Procaryota. The replication pathway starts with PriA protein - the initiator protein that binds to a DNA replication fork, unwinds double-stranded DNA and role of PriB is to stabilize PriA on the DNA. However there are many biochemical differences in replication mechanism in bacteria and only some of them use PriB proteins. A few of PriB proteins were published and only three structures of them were resolved (Escherichia coli, Klebsiellapneumoniae and Neisseria gonorrhoeae). All up-to-date known PriB proteins have one OB domain per monomer and they are homodimers in solution. Recently, we have published the crystal structure of PriB protein from Thermoanaerobactertengcongensis that represents new class of PriB with two oligonucleotide/oligosaccharide-binding domain (OB) per monomer that means it exists as monomer in solution. The aim of this study is identification and characterization of the primosomal protein B (PriB) from bacterium Clostridium pastuerianum(CpaPriB). It is the largest known bacterial PriB protein consisting 234 amino acid residues with a calculated molecular mass of 30kDa. Surprisingly, it is functional as monomer containing two single-stranded DNA binding domain (OB-fold) and it is the completely new kind structure of SSB protein like PriB protein from thermophilic bacterium Thermoanaerobactertengcongensis. Therefore, our studies suggest that we discovered new classes of PriB from mesophilic bacteria.

  • Nowa metoda bezpośredniej syntezy napięć w przekształtnikach matrycowych z zastosowaniem funkcji kształtu
    • Paweł Szczepankowski
    2013 Przegląd Elektrotechniczny

W artykule przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące metody syntezy napięć wielofazowego przekształtnika matrycowego z wykorzystaniem funkcji kształtu Wachspress’a oraz dwuwymiarowego elementu trójkątnego. Algorytm obliczenia współczynników wypełnień w modulacji szerokości impulsów sprowadzono do prostych operacji na współrzędnych wektorów. Metodę można zastosować do układów przekształtnikowych współpracujących z dowolnymi napięciami wejściowymi.
