    2014 JOURNAL OF PHYSICS-CONDENSED MATTER

Resistivity, dc magnetization, and heat capacity measurements are reported for superconducting NaBi. Tc, the electronic contribution to the specific heat γ, the ΔCp/γTc ratio, and the Debye temperature are found to be 2.15 K, 3.4 mJ mol−1 K−2, 0.78, and 140 K respectively. The calculated electron–phonon coupling constant (λep = 0.62) implies that NaBi is a moderately coupled superconductor. The upper critical field and coherence length are found to be 250 Oe and 115 nm, respectively. Electronic structure calculations show NaBi to be a good metal, in agreement with the experiments; the px and py orbitals of Bi dominate the electronic states at the Fermi Energy.

    2014

Nutrient cycling in the glacial environment is known from the perspective of meltwater release and snowpack elution processes, but the superimposed ice temporary storage remains poorly understood. In this study, the enrichment of superimposed ice in nutrient ions: nitrite, nitrate and ammonium was studied in more detail. The release of these ions from superimposed ice into a supraglacial stream was considered also, additionally considering phosphorus, which was not detected in the snowpack profile, but must have been more abundant elsewhere in the catchment. Nitrite and ammonium were enriched in the superimposed ice layer, and their peak concentrations in discharge formed by melting superimposed ice were also occurring later than for nitrate and phosphate. These two latter species were characterised by another concentration peak, which occurred after the glacial ice became exposed in the catchment.

2014 Full text PRACE NAUKOWE UNIWERSYTETU EKONOMICZNEGO WE WROCŁAWIU

Clusters have proved to be an important source of competitiveness for the economic development of regions within the European Union. In recent years many countries in the EU and throughout the world have launched policies aimed at supporting the development of clusters. There are many examples of good practices in the field of cluster policy, but there is no single model that can be applied in all countries and regions. This paper addresses the need to develop a country-specific framework for supporting the development of clusters in Poland. The aim of this paper is to present outcomes of a study carried out in relation to the topic of cluster policy in Poland. This paper contributes in this respect to an ongoing debate in this field by identifiying the main areas of strategic choices on both national and regional levels. On the basis of these findings, recommendations for fostering cluster development in Poland are proposed. The proposed recommendations are consistent with the concept of smart specialisation advocated by the European Commision.

  • Surface irregularities as a complex signal of tool representation together with uneven displacement in respect to the workpiece
    • Adam Boryczko
    • Wojciech Rytlewski
2014 Full text Metrology and Measurement Systems

In a dynamic machining process, distortion in surface irregularity is a very complex phenomenon. Surface irregularities form a periodic representation of the tool profile with various kinds of disturbance in a broad range of changes in the height and length of the profile. To discern these irregularity disturbances, interactions of the tool in the form of changes perpendicular and parallel relative to the workpiece were analyzed and simulated. The individual kinds of displacement of the tool relative to the workpiece introduce distortions in the changes of height and length. These changes are weakly represented in standard height and length irregularity parameters and their discernment has been found through amplitude-frequency functions.

Single semiconductors such as KTaO3, CdS MoS2 or their precursor solutions were combined to form novel binary and ternary semiconductor nanocomposites by the calcination or by the hydro/solvothermal mixed solutions methods, respectively. The aim of this work was to study the influence of preparation method as well as type and amount of the composite components on the surface properties and photocatalytic activity of the new semiconducting photoactive materials. We presented different binary and ternary combinations of the above semiconductors for phenol and toluene photocatalytic degradation and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) specific surface area and porosity. The results showed that loading MoS2 onto CdS as well as loading CdS onto KTaO3 significantly enhanced absorption properties as compared with single semiconductors. The highest photocatalytic activity in phenol degradation reaction under both UV-Vis and visible light irradiation and very good stability in toluene removal was observed for ternary hybrid obtained by calcination of KTaO3, CdS, MoS2 powders at the 10:5:1 molar ratio. Enhanced photoactivity could be related to the two-photon excitation in KTaO3-CdS-MoS2 composite under UV-Vis and/or to additional presence of CdMoO4 working as co-catalyst.

  • SUSHI - jak to ugryźć? Czyli o standaryzacji i gromadzeniu statystyk wykorzystania zasobów elektronicznych na przykładzie Biblioteki Głównej Gdańskiego Uniwersytetu Medycznego
    • Piotr Damian Krajewski
2014 Full text Forum Bibliotek Medycznych

  • Symmetry-Breaking Bifurcation for Free Elastic Shell of Biological Cluster, Part 2
    • Hanna Guze
    • Joanna Janczewska
2014 Full text Milan Journal of Mathematics

We will be concerned with a two-dimensional mathematical model for a free elastic shell of biological cluster. The cluster boundary is connected with its kernel by elastic links. The inside part is filled with compressed gas or fluid. Equilibrium forms of the shell of biological cluster may be found as solutions of a certain nonlinear functional-differential equation with several physical parameters. For each multiparameter this equation has a radially symmetric solution. Our goal is to study the bifurcation which breaks symmetry. In order to establish critical values of bifurcation parameter and buckling modes we will investigate an appropriate linear problem. Our main result on the existence of symmetry-breaking bifurcation will be proved by the use of a variational version of the Crandall-Rabinowitz theorem.

    2014

For the evaluation of modern electric power systems with regard to their behavior, weight, and reliability a novel modeling and simulation tools have been developed. The paper presents circuit model of synchronous generator taking into account both the non-sinusoidal distribution of the stator and rotor winding, and non-uniform saturation of the pole shoes. This model is suitable for simulation of both salient and no-salient pole generators. Winding function approach is used to define the self and mutual inductance which has enabled to take into account the non-sinusoidal distribution of stator and rotor windings. The equivalent airgap length distribution function is used to model the shape of the salient pole rotor and non-uniform saturation of the pole shoe. Simulation and experimental tests were carried out to validate this modelling method. The developed model can be used to analyze an autonomous power systems, in which a single generator has a significant impact on the power quality

A number of tetrazole diamides and triamides have been synthesized and applied as ion carries in ion-selective membrane electrodes. Their selectivity and sensitivity were studied towards alkali, alkaline earth, transition and heavy metal cations. it was found that membranes doped with 3 and 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether exhibit an almost theoretial Nernstian response for NH+ over relatively wide concentration range. Elestrodes with ionophores 4 and 5 with bis91-buthylpentyl) adipate show high affinity towards CD2+; another diamide with two plasticizers exhibits good selectivity fo Pb2+ ions.

    2014 DALTON TRANSACTIONS

Four heteroleptic complexes of zinc(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) containing a monodentate silanethiolate ligand derived from tris(2,6-diisopropylphenoxy)silanethiol (TDST), were prepared and characterized. The geometries of ligands in the complexes are typical: distorted tetrahedral in zinc and cobalt(II) complexes and square planar in nickel(II) compound. Magnetic studies performed for Ni(II) and Co(II) compounds confirm the diamagnetic character of the first complex and high-spin paramagnetic configuration of the latter. Nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes were additionally characterized by infrared spectroscopy and the characteristic bands for NH3 molecules in the complexes were assigned with the help of the DFT vibrational frequency calculations.

A composite of BaCe0.6Zr0.2Y0.2O3–δ and Li2O:NiO:ZnO was investigated for fuel cell applications. The composite was successfully synthesized and its phase stability was confirmed at temperatures up to 900 °C. The influence of sintering and pressing aids on density was also investigated. Electrical properties were measured. DC electrical conductivity was about 8•10-4 S/m at 845 K. Open circuit voltage measurements in wet hydrogen have shown that the composite can be used in single layer fuel cells.

This work presents thermal studies of nanocomposites based on the flexible polyurethane (PU) matrix and filled using montmorillonite organically modified with organophosphorus flame retardant compound. Flexible PU nanocomposite foams were prepared in the reaction carried out between reactive alcoholic hydroxyl and isocyanate groups with the ratio of NCO to OH groups equal to 1.05. The amount of an organoclay ranging from 3 to 9 vol% was added to the polyol component of the resin before mixing with isocyanate. The apparent density of PU foams was ranging from 0.066 to 0.077 g cm-1. Thermal properties of the flexible PU nanocomposite foams were investigated by thermogravimetry and dynamical mechanical analysis. Glass transition temperatures (Tg) were defined as maximum peak on tand curve. Thermal decomposition was observed at 310–320 C (calculated from the onset of TG curve). Tensile strength of the PU foams was determined using mechanical test. The microstructure of the nanoparticles and the composites was investigated by X-ray diffraction. Finally, it was confirmed that the thermal and mechanical properties of flexible PU nanocomposite depend on the amount of nanoclay.
