The electromyographic activity of muscles was measured using a wireless biofeedback device. The aim of the study was to examine the possibility of creating an automatic muscle tension classifier. Several measurement series were conducted and the participant performed simple physical exercises - forcing the muscle to increase its activity accordingly to the selected scale. A small wireless device was attached to the electrodes placed on the patient's body in the area of biceps muscle. The patient body position, electrode placement and performed exercises were the features that as much as possible, minimized the impact of the surrounding muscles influence. The data were recorded and an analysis was made using QT /C++ environment. The exercises were designed to enable evaluation of muscle activity according to Lovett scale. The aim of the research described in this article was to help in the assessing of the muscle strength tension to assess progress in rehabilitation. The designed feed-forward neural network allowed classification of recorded signals with 78% accuracy.

The aim of this study was to assess regional perfusion at baseline and regional cerebrovascular resistance (CVR) to delayed acetazolamide challenge in subjects with chronic carotid artery stenosis.Sixteen patients (ten males) aged 70.94±7.71 with carotid artery stenosis ≥90% on the ipsilateral side and ≤50% on the contralateral side were enrolled into the study. In all patients, two computed tomography perfusion examinations were carried out; the first was performed before acetazolamide administration and the second 60 minutes after injection. The differences between mean values were examined by paired two-sample t-test and alternative nonparametric Wilcoxon’s test. Normality assumption was examined using W Shapiro-Wilk test. The lowest resting-state cerebral blood flow (CBF) was observed in white matter (ipsilateral side: 18.4±6.2; contralateral side: 19.3±6.6) and brainstem (ipsilateral side: 27.8±8.5; contralateral side: 29.1±10.8). Grey matter (cerebral cortex) resting state CBF was below the normal value for subjects of this age: frontal lobe – ipsilateral side: 30.4±7.0, contralateral side: 33.7±7.1; parietal lobe – ipsilateral side: 36.4±11.3, contralateral side: 42.7±9.9; temporal lobe – ipsilateral side: 32.5±8.6, contralateral side: 39.4±10.8; occipital lobe – ipsilateral side: 24.0±6.0, contralateral side: 26.4±6.6). The highest resting state CBF was observed in the insula (ipsilateral side: 49.2±17.4; contralateral side: 55.3±18.4). A relatively high resting state CBF was also recorded in the thalamus (ipsilateral side: 39.7±16.9; contralateral side: 41.7±14.1) and cerebellum (ipsilateral side: 41.4±12.2; contralateral side: 38.1±11.3). The highest CVR was observed in temporal lobe cortex (ipsilateral side: +27.1%; contralateral side: +26.1%) and cerebellum (ipsilateral side: +27.0%; contralateral side: +34.6%). The lowest CVR was recorded in brain stem (ipsilateral side: +20.2%; contralateral side: +22.2%) and white matter (ipsilateral side: +18.1%; contralateral side: +18.3%). All CBF values were provided in milliliters of blood per minute per 100 g of brain tissue [ml/100g/min]. Resting state circulation in subjects with carotid artery stenosis is low in all analysed structures with the exception of insula and cerebellum. Acetazolamide challenge yields relatively uniform response in both hemispheres in the investigated population.Grey matter is more reactive to acetazolamide challenge than white matter or brainstem.

  • Regulated assembly of lipopolysaccharide and sensing of its alterations in Escherichia coli
    • Anna Stupak
    2018 Full text

This thesis describes mechanism of the regulation of the transcription of the rpoE gene encoding an essential RNA polymerase subunit in Escherichia coli. The RpoE regulates extracytoplasmic stress response regulon and is required to initiate transcription of genes, whose products are involvedin the folding of periplasmic proteins and synthesis and transport of outer membrane components. The transcriptional regulation of the rpoE gene has not been fully understood. Initially two promoters were identified, out of which the downstream promoter is positively regulated by RpoE. In this study, it was shown that transcription from upstream region is sustained under several stress and non-stress conditions such as entry into the stationary phase or high osmolarity or cold shock or treatment with antibiotics like polymyxin B or defects in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) assembly and its biosynthesis. Such multiple divergent regulations of the upstream promoter suggested that there could be more than one transcription start site located within this region. Indeed, mapping of 5’ ends of the rpoE mRNA identified five new transcriptional initiation sites (P1 to P5) located distal to the promoter regulated by RpoE. Experiments showed that three major promoters, P2, P3 and P4, are recognized by different sigma factors (RpoN, RpoD and RpoS) and these promoters are activated in response to unique signals. The RpoN-dependent P2 promoter was shown to require the QseF as an activator. Analysis of trans acting mutations revealed that LPS defects caused the induction of transcription from the RpoD-regulated rpoEP3 promoter, revealing the mechanism of sensing of LPS alterations in E. coli. This promoter is also positively regulated by the Rcs system and by the global regulator CRP. Furthermore, two non-coding small regulatory RNAs (sRNAs) were identified. One of them, SlrA, was shown to act in trans and repress the synthesis of most abundant protein Lpp and prevent hyperinduction of RpoE, when LPS biosynthesis is compromised in the absence of essential LapB protein. The second sRNA identified was shown to regulate LPS biosynthesis by sequestering RfaH transcriptional factor. Furthermore, mutagenesis revealed essential amino acid residues that are required for the function of LPS assembly factor LapB.

  • Reliability and types of diagnosis in the process of diesel engine operation
    • Jerzy Girtler
2018 Full text Journal of Polish CIMEEAC

The article presents complexity of the problem concerning development of diagnosis with defined reliability by a diagnosing system (SDG) on technical condition of marine combustion engines, especially main engines. It was shown that development of the final diagnosis, the so-called initial operation diagnosis, on the operational usability (fDG on PEx) of a main engine in particular, is not possible without prior development of reliable diagnoses such as: diagnosis on correctness of diagnostic signals, diagnosis on correctness of values of the measured diagnostic parameters of an engine (DG on pWM), diagnosis on technical condition of an engine (DG on ST) and initial diagnosis on operational usability of an engine (wDG on PEx), the so-called initial operation diagnosis. Difficulties in development of the diagnoses were emphasized herein due to the fact that the process of acquisition of information needed to develop diagnoses with certain reliability or accuracy is a two-dimensional stochastic process with components: B(t) – being considered during operation (use) of SDG (at so-called long time - quasistatic) and C() – being considered while measuring diagnostic parameters and diagnostic inference (at so-called short time - dynamic). The need to determine reliability or accuracy rate of each diagnosis in the form of conditional probability P(S/K) was also indicated, where S – technical state of the engine and K – vector of values of diagnostic parameters reflecting state S. Diagnostic status of marine engine as a diagnosed system (SDN) was characterized in general, on the example of an engine operation process with regards to input (X), output (Y), constant (C) and interference (Z) values. Also there was explained how to understand the terms: diagnostic test, signal inference, measurement inference, structure inference and operation inference, and how inductive inference can be used to verify, for example, the hypothesis H on engine state S when vector K of values of engine diagnostic parameters is observed.

A new greedy multipoint model-order reduction algorithm for fast frequency-domain finite-element method simulations of electromagnetic problems is proposed. The location of the expansion points and the size of the projection basis are determined based on a rigorous error estimator. Compared to previous multipoint methods, the quality of the error estimator is significantly improved by ensuring the orthogonality of the projection basis vectors at each stage of the model-order reduction algorithm. Numerical studies show that the new algorithm yields compact and highly accurate reduced-order models.

Saint Mary’s church in Gdańsk, one of the largest brick Gothic temples in the World, has got no external chapels – except the House of Councils. Its architectural form, however, is not the result of implementation of one project, but realization of a few transforming concepts. The discovery of the relicts of the 16 th century cellars, located in the corner of the transept and the northern aisle, gives an idea of the process of building the space around the temple, which was interrupted by the Reformation. The paper summarizes the architectural and archaeological researches, which have been conducted since 2016 in connection to the conservational works. Their part is also the adaptation of the former unused boiler cellar from 1929 on the multimedia room. There was the space, where one dis - covered the relicts of the older constructions from the end of the Middle Ages. The aim of this article is to present the results of conducted research and to discuss the historical and functional context of the found relicts of cellars.

Abstract— The goal of this study is to examine the influence of various imitated and video invoked emotions on the vital signs (respiratory and pulse rates). We also perform an analysis of the possibility to extract signals from sequences acquired with cost-effective cameras. The preliminary results show that the respiratory rate allows for better separation of some emotions than the pulse rate, yet this relation highly depends on a subject. The invoked positive emotion resulted in a respiratory rate difference > 1.8bpm, comparing to the average respiration rate of all neutral results (in 89% of observations). Visual facial expression in many cases was insufficient for emotion recognition (in video based experiment only 11.4% of visual responses were classified as an expected emotion).

  • Research of leakage magnetic field in deenergized transformer
    • Jacek Horiszny
2018 COMPEL-THE INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL FOR COMPUTATION AND MATHEMATICS IN ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING

The article deals with the issue of the numerical analysis of the magnetic field occurring around the transformer after it has been powered down. The main goal of this analysis was to examine if it is possible to identify the residual fluxes in the transformer legs based on this fields’ measurements. It was also intended to determine the type and the location of magnetic sensors. Numerical analysis of the magnetic field was performed. A three-dimensional model of the transformer magnetic core was created in the Flux 3D simulation program. The research concerned an oil-filled transformer and a dry transformer. The magnetic field of Earth was taken into account. The research has shown that magnetic induction of leakage field produced by residual magnetization of the core is comparable to magnetic induction of the Earth's field. It was also found that the measurement of magnetic induction should be performed as close as possible to the core. The interior of the tank turned out to be a convenient space for the sensors placement . The influence of external ferromagnetic objects, and devices generating magnetic field, on the measurement was not considered. This influence should be taken into account in the future work. On the basis of the results it was proposed to measure the magnetic induction vector of the leakage field at three points. The sensors should be placed in front of the columns at half of their height. The measurement can be performed with satisfactory accuracy by sensors located on the surface of the windings.

  • Research on the phenomena of warming up and free cooling down the car engine
    • Zbigniew Kneba
    2018

The average cold start temperature in Europe is 9 degrees C. However, not the average is the most important for the composition of exhaust gases and associated air pollution. The most onerous for the environment are the winter starts when automotive emissions of harmful gases add up in cities with those of home heating systems. The paper presents preliminary studies of warming up and cooling down processes in various environmental conditions. It was pointed out that thermal insulation of engines could be required.

  • Resonance microstrip structure with patch of arbitrary convex geometry with the use of field matching technique
    • Rafał Lech
2018 JOURNAL OF ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES AND APPLICATIONS

An analysis of the resonance frequency problem of planar microstrip structure with patch of arbitrary convex geometry is presented. A full-wave analysis is employed utilizing a combination of Galerkin’s moment method and field matching technique. In this approach, a field matching technique is adopted to calculate the patch surface current densities, and next the method of moments is utilized to calculate resonance frequencies of the microstrip structure. Different convex shapes of patches are considered to verify the validity of the approach. The results agree with those obtained from commercial software and presented in literature.

    2018 PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS

In a combined experimental and theoretical study, we probe the dissociative electron attachment in isocyanic acid HNCO. The experimental absolute cross section for the NCO− fragment shows a sharp onset and fine structures near the threshold. The autoionizing state responsible for the dissociative attachment is found in both the R-matrix calculation and using analytic continuation in the coupling constant. The involved A' resonance has a mixed π*=σ* character along the dissociating bond and thus combines the effects of nonzero electron angular momentum and dipole-supported states. This leads to unusual behavior of its width at various geometries. Because the potential energy gradient of the autoionizing state points essentially in the direction of the N─H bond, nuclear dynamics can be described by a one-dimensional nonlocal model. The results agree with the experiment both quantitatively and qualitatively. The present system may be a prototype for interpretation of the dissociative electron attachment process in a number of other polyatomic systems.

  • RESOURCE ALLOCATION IN DAB+ BROADCASTING SYSTEM
    • Przemysław Falkowski-Gilski
2018 Zeszyty Naukowe Wydziału ETI Politechniki Gdańskiej. Technologie Informacyjne

With over two billion receivers operating worldwide, radio transmission is by far the most accessible medium. It has been a part of our lives since the 1920’s and has become one of the most trusted and friendly mass media. Today, its popularity is still strong, despite the outcome of many electronic media. In order to transform the radio into a viable medium of the 21st century, it will have to migrate from analogue to digital technology domain. It will have to adopt to new means and ways of delivering content, as well as new transport and distribution mechanisms, including terrestrial, satellite and cable communications. This paper present the concept of an adaptive multiplex resource allocation method in the DAB+ broadcast system. It provides simulation results of four multiplexes, with different configurations and programs, as well as the concept of a technological demonstrator, fully compatible with the DAB+ standard.
