  • A Paradigm for HV, MV, LV Distribution Grid Development Planning
    • Jacek Klucznik
    • Zbigniew Lubośny
    2012 Full text Acta Energetica

In the literature, including that relating to businesses in the energy (and power) sector, the concept of these organizations’ operating paradigm may be found. The paper discusses the concept of the paradigm, with a focus on the power grid development planning paradigm. Against this background, issues related to energy security and power systems development trends and problems are presented. A new paradigm is proposed for distribution grid development planning. This paradigm is an original proposal of the authors.

  • A Parallel Genetic Algorithm for Creating Virtual Portraits of Historical Figures

    • Tomasz Ziółkowski
    2012 Full text TASK Quarterly

In this paper we present a genetic algorithm (GA) for creating hypothetical virtual portraits of historical figures and other individuals whose facial appearance is unknown. Our algorithm uses existing portraits of random people from specific historical period and social background to evolve a set of face images potentially resembling the person whose image is to be found. We then use portraits of the person's relatives to judge which of the evolved images are most likely to resemble his/her actual appearance. Unlike typical GAs, our algorithm uses a new supervised form of textit{fitness function} which is affected by the evolution process. Additional description of requested facial features can be provided to further influence the final solution (i.e. the virtual portrait). We present an example of a virtual portrait created by our algorithm. Finally, performance of a parallel implementation developed for the KASKADA platform is presented and evaluated.

    2012 COMPUTING AND INFORMATICS

Consider an orthogonal grid of streets and avenues in a Manhattan-like city populated by stationary sensor modules at some intersections and mobile robots that can serve as relays of information that the modules exchange, where both module-module and module-robot communication is limited to a straight line of sight within the grid. The robots are oblivious and move asynchronously. We present a distributed algorithm that, given the sensor locations as input, moves the robots to suitable locations in the grid so that a connected network of all modules is established. The number of robots that the algorithm uses is worst case optimal.

This paper provides a review of antennas applied for indoor positioning or localization systems. The desired requirements of thoseantennas when integrated in anchor nodes (reference nodes) are discussed, according to different localization techniques and theirperformance. The described antennas will be subdivided into the following sections according to the nature of measurements:received signal strength (RSS), time of flight (ToF), and direction of arrival (DoA). This paper intends to provide a useful guidefor antenna designers who are interested in developing suitable antennas for indoor localization systems.

2012 IEEE MICROWAVE AND WIRELESS COMPONENTS LETTERS

This letter presents the design of a microwave bandpass filter with frequency-dependent coupling implemented in substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. The proposed filter implements a four-pole generalized Chebyshev filtering function with two transmission zeros. Resonators are arranged in an extended box configuration with dispersive coupling on a main signal path, which produces an extra zero in comparison to classical approaches. The frequency-dependent coupling is implemented as a shorted stub with an additional septum made from via-holes. Such modification allows better control of the positions of the resonant frequencies of coupled SIW cavities, as well as of the position of the transmission zero. The filter was fabricated in SIW technology and good agreement was achieved between the simulated results and those measured.

2012 Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing

Paradygmat obliczeń rozproszonych ostatnio zyskuje coraz większą uwagę, ponieważ zarówno instytucje przemysłowe, jak i uczelnie wymagają coraz większej mocy obliczeniowej do przetwarzania i analizy danych.

  • A Taxonomy of Model-Based Testing for Embedded Systems from Multiple Industry Domains
    • Justyna Zander
    • Pieter J. Mosterman
    2012

This chapter provides a taxonomy of Model-Based Testing (MBT) based on the approaches that are presented throughout this book as well as in the related literature. The techniques for testing are categorized using a number of dimensions to familiarize the reader with the terminology used throughout the chapters that follow. In this chapter, after a brief introduction, a general definition of MBT and related work on available MBT surveys is provided. Next, the various test dimensions are presented. Subsequently, an extensive taxonomy is proposed that classifies the MBT process according to the MBT foundation (referred to as MBT basis), definition of various test generation techniques, consideration of test execution methods, and the specification of test evaluation. The taxonomy is an extension of previous work by Zander and Schieferdecker (2009) and it is based on contributions of Utting, Pretschner, and Legeard (2006). A summary concludes the chapter with the purpose of encouraging the reader to further study the contributions of the collected chapters in this book and the specific aspects of MBT that they address in detail.

Przedyskutowano szeroko eksperymenty mające na celu badanie skuteczności mechanizmów tworzenia metryk w obecności przykładowych ataków na poziomie 2 Systemu IIP.

  • abiotic degradation of chlorinated ethanes and ethenes in water
    • Marek Tobiszewski
    • Jacek Namieśnik
2012 Full text ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND POLLUTION RESEARCH

Introduction Chlorinated ethanes and ethenes are among themost frequently detected organic pollutants of water. Theirphysicochemical properties are such that they can contaminateaquifers for decades. In favourable conditions, they canundergo degradation. In anaerobic conditions, chlorinatedsolvents can undergo reductive dechlorination.Degradation pathways Abiotic dechlorination is usuallyslower than microbial but abiotic dechlorination is usuallycomplete. In favourable conditions, abiotic reactions bringsignificant contribution to natural attenuation processes.Abiotic agents that may enhance the reductive dechlorinationof chlorinated ethanes and ethenes are zero-valent metals, sulphide minerals or green rusts.Oxidation At some sites, permanganate and Fenton'sreagent can be used as remediation tool for oxidation ofchlorinated ethanes and ethenes.Summary Nanoscale iron or bimetallic particles, due to highefficiency in degradation of chlorinated ethanes and ethenes, have gained much interest. They allow for rapid degradationof chlorinated ethanes and ethenes in water phase, but theyalso give benefit of treating dense non-aqueous phase liquid.

    2012 MAGNETIC RESONANCE IN CHEMISTRY

The relative configurations of four stereogenic centers of the C33-C42 fragment of niphimycin A were assigned as 2S*, 3R*, 4S* and 6S*, based upon 1H NMR analysis with double-quantum filtered COSY and nuclear Overhauser spectroscopy experiments. These data were then correlated with absolute configurations at C36 and C38 of niphimycin A, which were declared previously as 36S and 38S [3]. This allowed for the assignment of the absolute configurations at C34 and C35 of niphimycin A as 34S and 35R.

  • Acceleration of the discrete Green's function computations
    • Tomasz Stefański
    2012

Results of the acceleration of the 3-D discrete Green's function (DGF) computations on the multicore processor are presented. The code was developed in the multiple precision arithmetic with use of the OpenMP parallel programming interface. As a result, the speedup factor of three orders of magnitude compared to the previous implementation was obtained thus applicability of the DGF in FDTD simulations was significantly improved.
