    Przeprowadzono badania składu surowcowego odpadów komunalnych. W badaniach wykorzystano dwie frakcje odpadów organicznych, które zostały poddane procesowi termofilowej fermentacji metanowej. Pierwszą frakcję stanowiły odpady modelowe. Drugim surowcem biomasy była frakcja organicznych odpadów komunalnych pochodząca z systemu dualnego. Zbadano potencjał biogazowy frakcji organicznej odpadów komunalnych.

    The increasing use of bio-based fuels and fuel additives, among them biodiesel, causes significant surplus of crude glycerol on the market which creates new challenges in terms of its sustainable utilization. A lot of ways for the incorporation of this by-product into different branches of industry requires purification by expensive and complicated processes. Therefore, researchers are seeking for applications of untreated crude glycerol. Among the possibilities, much attention is drawn to the polymer chemistry and technology. This branch of industry is one of the biggest consumers of glycerol after food, pharmaceutical and personal care applications sectors, and probably the biggest one that does not require complicated purification of glycerol resulting from biodiesel technology. Crude glycerol can be applied in the number of processes such as fermentation, oxidation, esterification and transesterification, biomass liquefaction, oligomerization and polymerization, carboxylation, glycerolysis, hydrogenolysis, dehydration or dihydroxylation. This paper summarizes the use of glycerol in polymer technology and the attempts of crude glycerol incorporation into this field reported in literature.


  • Potential for ITS/ICT Solutions in Urban Freight Management

    The article presents a study on applying ITS solutions in planning and management of urban freight transport in Gdynia. The traffic management system Tristar which is under implementation and its related systems show a potential to assist in development of freight transport measures. Recommendations for urban freight policy development supplementing Gdynia's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan were used as a basis for identification where ITS/ITC could be implemented. The first stage may involve modelling and analysis of freight vehicle traffic with new multilevel transport model for Gdynia. Other possible measures include, among others provision of dynamic information for vehicle routing and priorities for trucks on selected sections of road network. However, problems with access to reliable data describing delivery vehicle traffic were identified in this early stage as no practical rules for their collection had been developed. Additional problems appear in acquiring urban supply chain characteristics that require collaboration with the private sector. Such studies have not as yet been conducted in Poland. The identified factors indicate the need to precisely specify expected results and the areas of ITS application in Gdynia to prepare for their. Dynamic routing and scheduling with real time information appeared to be the most promising solution applying ITS, with temporary priorities for HGV providing services to the sea port in Gdynia in peak traffic and directing lorries implementation to free parking slots. Experience gained in these applications will be useful in developing other, complex solutions, e.g. in organising distribution in the city centre.

    pace technology is currently one of the most important elements in the advance of information societies and knowledge-based economies all over the world. The European Space Agency (ESA) is in the focal point of European space activities, while the European Union provides strong financial support for the development of space technologies and applications in its flagship programs. In a domestic scope, the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) is a national aeronautics entity responsible for activities related to development of technologies of the national space sector. Recently, one of the activities which POLSA aims to establish, is the programme of building a system of satellite SAR observations dedicated for Polish users; such as administration, civilian services, and Polish scientific and research entities, that would expand potential use of satellite technologies among numerous Polish beneficiaries. In the context mentioned above, the paper describes the architecture and functional components of an exemplary satellite SAR system, along with the potential of Polish entities to develop such technology.


  • Potential reduction of traffic noise by the means of increased fleet of electric vehicles using a combination of low-noise tyres and low-noise road surfaces

    In the future, the number of zero-emission vehicles like electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles (in electric mode) is expected to be a substantial part of the vehicle fleet. In Norway, such vehicles already account for approximately 20 % of all new cars sold. Since these vehicles emit negligible noise related to the power-train, the tyre/road noise is the dominating noise source. In the LEO project, tyres designed for such cars have been tested on a wide range of road surfaces in Norway and Poland, including a poroelastic road surface. In addition, some noise tests have been made with electric cars fitted with special tyres and compared to normal cars. Depending on a combination of a tyre and a road surface, a reduction of tyre/road noise from 2 to 10 dB can be achieved. Calculations using the TRANECAM model, for six different scenarios have been performed for the potential reduction of the overall traffic noise levels in the future, with a percentage of electric/plug-in hybrid vehicles rising up to 25 % of the total vehicle fleet. Unexpectedly such a substantial change of fleet composition will have only a very limited influence of the noise level reduction – less than 0.5 dB. The best combination of low noise tyres and road surface (PERS) can reduce the Lden-levels by 6-7 dB in 2030.

  • Pounding between Inelastic Three-Storey Buildings under Seismic Excitations

    Structural interactions between adjacent, insufficiently separated buildings have been repeatedly observed during damaging ground motions. This phenomenon, known as the structural pounding, may result in substantial damage or even total collapse of structures. The aim of the present paper is to show the results of the nonlinear numerical analysis focused on pounding between inelastic three-storey buildings under seismic excitations. The discrete lumped-mass numerical models of two building have been used in the analysis. The results of the study indicate that the response of the lighter and more flexible inelastic building can be substantially influenced by structural interactions, and collisions may even lead to the permanent deformation of the structure. On the other hand, the behaviour of the heavier and stiffer building does not really change considerably during the earthquake. The results of the study also indicate that incorporation of the inelastic behaviour of colliding buildings with different dynamic characteristics is very important for the purposes of accurate numerical modelling of pounding-involved structural response under damaging seismic excitations.

    W ostatnich latach obserwuje się znaczny wzrost zainteresowania tematyką wykorzystania sztucznych zmysłów w analityce chemicznej. Szczególną pozycję zajmuje urządzenie, mające naśladować zmysł węchu - elektroniczny nos. Jest to instrument umożliwiający holistyczną analizę składu mieszaniny gazowej, bez rozdzielania i identyfikacji jej poszczególnych składników. Głównym zadaniem, stawianym tym urządzeniom, jest automatyczne rozróżnianie próbek na podstawie różnic w składzie ich frakcji lotnej (profilu zapachowym). Elektroniczne nosy coraz częściej zastępują również tradycyjne olfaktometry, urządzenia do badania zapachu za pomocą węchu ludzkiego, ze względu na znacząco krótszy czas analizy i możliwą automatyzację. W pracy podjęto się próby powiązania intensywności zapachowej z sygnałami czujników półprzewodnikowych elektronicznego nosa za pomocą modelu liniowego. Badania przeprowadzono na mieszaninach trzech substancji zapachowych zidentyfikowanych w pobliżu oczyszczalni ścieków: toluenu, limonenu oraz disiarczku dimetylu. Wykazano, że wzajemne interakcje tych substancji w mieszaninach powodują wzmocnienie intensywności zapachowej, co również potwierdziły badania z wykorzystaniem elektronicznego nosa.

    Prace konserwatorskie i adaptacje prowadzone w latach 90. pozwoliły na dokonanie kilku odkryć istotnych dla architektonicznej historii ratusza. Odkryto dawne stropy i elementy konstrukcyjne ścian. Potwierdziły się hipotezy J. Habeli oparte na rysunkach Helda, dotyczące pierwotnego układu pomieszczeń we wschodniej części parteru, natomiast w części zachodniej przebieg oryginalnych ścian okazał się nieco odmienny. Forma stropu odkrytego na I piętrze rozjaśnia wyobrażenie o dawnym wystroju najważniejszych pomieszczeń ratusza – Sali Rady i Sali Ławy.

    Ładowanie nocne (OverNight Charging) oraz szybkie ładowanie (Oportunity Charging) to obecnie dwa najbardziej popularne systemy ładowania autobusów elektrycznych. Pomimo uruchomienia wielu próbnych instalacji, żaden z tych dwóch systemów nie zyskał jednoznacznej aprobaty użytkowników. Alternatywą jest ładowanie pojazdów w ruchu, tzw. In Motion Charging, w które stanowi połączenie zalet komunikacji trolejbusowej oraz autobusu elektrycznego: głównym źródłem zasilania są baterie trakcyjnej, jednak ładowanie odbywa się w ruchu bez konieczności zatrzymywania pojazdu.


  • Precise Point Positioning Method Based on Wide-lane and Narrow-lane Phase Observations and Between Satellites Single Differencing

    The issue of using PPP method in position determination was formed in 1997. In most developed methods, ionospheric-free linear combination is used in order to eliminate the impact of the ionospheric delay. However, this approach does not provide the directly determination of the total value of the ambiguities, and the ambiguities for the individual signals. Therefore, in many publications methods of avoiding these deficiencies were presented and among them these ones, which use a wide-lane linear combination. This approach is however based on assumption that wide-lane combination is additional information for the ambiguities determination and does not take a part directly in the position determination process. In this paper three linear combinations were used: ionospheric-free code measurements and wide-lane and narrow-lane phase measurements. All formed equations of the observations were solved together in one calculation process, using the modified least squares method. The calculations determined: the position of the receiver, correction of the a priori value of tropospheric delay, and the phase ambiguities for individual satellites. By using wide-lane and narrow-lane combination the real values of ambiguities for the individual satellites were determined and it is not necessary to take into account ionospheric delay in observation equation processing. Furthermore, using the proposed method which is based on single differences between satellites, allows to eliminate the receiver clock errors and initial phase bias, which significantly accelerate the time convergence of position solution. All of these assumptions have been included in the developed algorithm called XPPP, which was implemented in developed by authors GPES software. This paper presents the results of position determination obtained by GPES software. For this purpose coordinates of selected EPN stations were estimated and compared to the reference values.   • Prediction of flow boiling heat transfer coefficient for carbon dioxide in minichannels and conventional channels

    In the paper presented are the results of calculations using authors own model to predict heat transfer coefficient during flow boiling of carbon dioxide. The experimental data from various resea rches were collected. Calculations were conducted for a full range of quality variation and a wide range of mass velocity. The aim of the study was to test the sensitivity of the in-house model. The results show the importance of taking into account the surface tension as the parameter exhibiting its importance in case of the flow in minichannels as well as the influence of reduced pressure. The calculations were accomplished to test the sensitivity of the heat transfer model with respect to selection of the appropriate two-phase flow multiplier, which is one of the elements of the heat transfer model. For that purpose correlations due to Müller Steinhagen and Heck as well as the one due to Friedel were considered. Obtained results show a good consistency with experimental results, however the selection of two-phase flow multiplier does not significantly influence the consistency of calculations.
