In this paper, we propose a distributed system for point cloud processing and transferring them via computer network regarding to effectiveness-related requirements. We discuss the comparison of point cloud filters focusing on their usage for streaming optimization. For the filtering step of the stream pipeline processing we evaluate four filters: Voxel Grid, Radial Outliner Remover, Statistical Outlier Removal and Pass Through. For each of the filters we perform a series of tests for evaluating the impact on the point cloud size and transmitting frequency (analysed for various fps ratio). We present results of the optimization process used for point cloud consolidation in a distributed environment. We describe the processing of the point clouds before and after the transmission. Pre- and post-processing allow the user to send the cloud via network without any delays. The proposed pre-processing compression of the cloud and the post-processing reconstruction of it are focused on assuring that the end-user application obtains the cloud with a given precision.

In this paper we discuss the comparison of point cloud filters focusing on their applicability for streaming optimization. For the filtering stage within a stream pipeline processing we evaluate three filters: Voxel Grid, Pass Through and Statistical Outlier Removal. For the filters we perform series of the tests aiming at evaluation of changes of point cloud size and transmitting frequency (various fps ratio). We propose a distributed system used for point cloud processing and transferring them using computer network that fulfil requirements related to their effectiveness. We present results of the optimization process used for point cloud consolidation in the distributed environment. We show how to process the cloud of points before and do after the transmission. Both pre and post-processing allow a user to send the cloud via network without any delays, not causing the processing delay at the same time. Proposed pre-processing is focused on kind of compression of the cloud, and the post-processing on the reconstruction of it, so that the end-user application obtains the cloud with a given precision

  • Design of reverse curves adapted to the satellite measurements
    • Władysław Koc
2016 Full text Advances in Civil Engineering

The paper presents a new method for designing railway route in the direction change area adapted to the Mobile Satellite Measurements technique. The method may be particularly useful in the situations when both tangents cannot be connected in an elementary way using a circular arc with transition curves. Thus, the only solution would be the application of two circular arcs of opposite curvature signs, that is, the use of an inverse curve. It has been assumed that the design of the geometrical layout will take place within an adequate local coordinate system. The solution of the design problem takes advantage of a mathematical notation and concentrates on the determination of universal equations describing the entire geometrical layout. This is a sequential operation involving successive parts of the mentioned layout. This universal algorithm can be easily applied to the computer software which will allow generating, in an automatic way, other geometrical layouts. Then, the choice of the most beneficial variant from the point of obtained trains velocities while minimizing the track axis offsets will be held using the optimization techniques. The current designing methods do not provide such opportunities. The presented method has been illustrated by appropriate calculation examples.

The aim of the paper is to present a concept of measuring the performance of city management processes by use of a concept of aggregate KPIs. In the management of organizations and, as a consequence of the use of a common design framework also in the management of cities, silo KPIs are commonly used to show the statuses of the processes of organizations/cities. Thus the question arises as to what extent aggregate KPIs, as proposed in the paper, can be used in the management processes of smart cities in place of the silo ones typical for organizations. The work is divided into four main parts. The first presents the problems of managing smart cities to introduce the reader to the problems of measuring processes and the need for aggregated measurements. The second section discusses KPIs and their place and role in management processes. The third part contains a description of the model of aggregate KPIs to support measurements of the status of city processes. In the fourth section the developed model is verified, demonstrating its applicability for city management processes. The summary includes a recommendation for the use of aggregate KPIs in the city.

  • Designing effective educational games - a case study of a project management game
    • Jakub Miler
    • Agnieszka Landowska
2016 Full text Annals of Computer Science and Information Systems

This paper addresses the issues of designing effective educational games. We aim at investigating how the cognitive, behavioral and emotional aspects of the games influence their educational effectiveness. The results were obtained with an observational user experience study extended with affect analysis carried out for a project management game GraPM. We analyzed the players’ understanding of the game mechanics and logic, their engagement and emotional state . Then we confronted it with the educational effects achieved. In this case study the key identified factors of educational effectiveness were: understanding game mechanics, player’s engagement, and feeling of control . Invoking other desired emotions was not required for effective education, which was also generally unrelated to the player’s initial knowledge.

This paper presents a framework for monitoring, analysing and decision making for a smart manufacturing environment. We maintain that this approach could play a vital role in developing an architecture and implementation of Industry 4.0. The proposed model has features like experience based knowledge representation and semantic analysis of engineering objects and manufacturing process. It is also capable of continuous real time visualization of key performance indicators (KPI’s) and supports M2M communications over novel protocols like OPC-UA. Our model covers the industrial manufacturing cycle right from capturing raw data at machine level, converting it into useful information, doing semantics analysis and performs real time KPI visualization.

Designing of the track’s alignment is a key issue from the point of view of maintaining of proper geometries. The paper presents a design method for sections of railway line located in the horizontal arch. The method is adapted to the technique of mobile satellite measurements. The general principles of this measurement method have been described in the article. A project's solution has been presented using mathematical notation in a form of the set of universal equations describing the whole geometrical layout which was analyzed. The design procedure lets to varying both the types and lengths of transition curves. Calculation algorithm has been implemented in Scilab environment and the basic features and functions of the algorithm has been presented. The implemented algorithm allows for generating various variants until the acceptation of main parameters of designed layouts. Moreover, the geometrical parameters could be determined in the process of multi-criteria optimization. Considering the process of alignment design, it has been assumed to achieve the highest possible trains speed together with the minimizing of the track dislocations. The optimization process is supported by the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (PSO). The presented method enables for relatively fast satellite measurements data processing as well as helps to reconstruct the model of a real route location. Therefore, this can be a basis for taking an appropriate action in modernization problems. A new concept of the designing of the track axis adjustment has been illustrated by a particular example of the calculations.

2016 Full text PHYSICAL REVIEW B

Detailed structural and magnetotransport properties of monophosphate tungsten bronze Kx(PO2)4(WO3)8 single crystals are reported. Both galvanomagnetic and thermal properties are shown to be consistent with a charge density wave electronic transition due to hidden nesting of the quasi-1D portion of the Fermi surface. We also observe the enhancement of electronic anisotropy due to reconstruction of the Fermi surface at the Peierls transition. The resistivity presents a thermal hysteresis suggesting a first-order nature characteristic of a strong-coupling scenario. However, other measurements such as the change of carrier density demonstrate a second-order Peierls scenario with weak-coupling features. We suggest that the structural transition driven by the residual strain in the K-P-O environment is responsible for the resistivity hysteresis and modifies the Fermi surface which then helps the rise to the second-order Peierls instability.

  • Detection, classification and localization of acoustic events in the presence of background noise for acoustic surveillance of hazardous situations
    • Kuba Łopatka
    • Józef Kotus
    • Andrzej Czyżewski
2016 Full text MULTIMEDIA TOOLS AND APPLICATIONS

Evaluation of sound event detection, classification and localization of hazardous acoustic events in the presence of background noise of different types and changing intensities is presented. The methods for discerning between the events being in focus and the acoustic background are introduced. The classifier, based on a Support Vector Machine algorithm, is described. The set of features and samples used for the training of the classifier are introduced. The sound source localization algorithm based on the analysis of multichannel signals from the Acoustic Vector Sensor is presented. The methods are evaluated in an experiment conducted in the anechoic chamber, in which the representative events are played together with noise of differing intensity. The results of detection, classification and localization accuracy with respect to the Signal to Noise Ratio are discussed. The results show that the recognition and localization accuracy are strongly dependent on the acoustic conditions. We also found that the engineered algorithms provide a sufficient robustness in moderately intense noise in order to be applied to practical audio-visual surveillance systems.

    2016

The paper presents the results of damage detection in a riveted aluminium plate. The detection method has been based on Lamb wave propagation. The plate has been analysed numerically and experimentally. Numerical calculations have been carried out by the use of the time-domain spectral finite element method, while for the experimental analysis laser scanning Doppler vibrometry (LSDV) has been utilised. The panel has been excited by a 5-pulse sinusoidal wave packet of a 35 kHz carrier frequency. A comparison of the experimental and analytical result indicates a good quality of the proposed damage detection technique.

  • DETECTION OF DEBONDING IN STEEL BARS EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE USING GUIDED WAVE PROPAGATION
    • Beata Zima
    • Magdalena Rucka
    2016 Full text Diagnostyka

The paper presents a non-destructive diagnostic technique based on guided wave propagation phenomenon used to assess the adhesive bonding between a steel bar and a concrete cover. Double-layered cylindrical specimens with different levels of debonding and its location were investigated. The influence of bonding length on the excitation of multiple modes of longitudinal guided waves was analysed. Numerical simulations of guided wave propagation in healthy and damaged specimens were conducted and differences in the occurring phenomena were specified. The analysis of the obtained results confirms the possibility to apply the guided wave propagation method in the assessment of degradation level in the adhesive bonding of multi-layered cylindrical structures.
