  • Integrating Confidence And Assurance Arguments
    • Aleksander Jarzębowicz
    • Andrzej Wardziński
    2015 Pełny tekst

To be considered compelling an assurance case should address its potential deficits, possibly with the use of a confidence argument. Assurance argument and confidence argument should be clearly separated and consistent at the same time. We propose a way of their integration with the use of an element representing rationale for each argumentation strategy. The rationale integrates confidence argument for a given argumentation step and can be used to demonstrate strength of the argument. The approach is illustrated with a confidence argument development case study. The confidence argument has been created for defeaters identified with the use of a checklist.

  • Integration of Services into Workflow Applications
    • Paweł Czarnul
    2015

Describing state-of-the-art solutions in distributed system architectures, Integration of Services into Workflow Applications presents a concise approach to the integration of loosely coupled services into workflow applications. It discusses key challenges related to the integration of distributed systems and proposes solutions, both in terms of theoretical aspects such as models and workflow scheduling algorithms, and technical solutions such as software tools and APIs. The book provides an in-depth look at workflow scheduling and proposes a way to integrate several different types of services into one single workflow application. It shows how these components can be expressed as services that can subsequently be integrated into workflow applications. The workflow applications are often described as acyclic graphs with dependencies which allow readers to define complex scenarios in terms of basic tasks. Presents state-of-the-art solutions to challenges in multi-domain workflow application definition, optimization, and execution Proposes a uniform concept of a service that can represent executable components in all major distributed software architectures used today Discusses an extended model with determination of data flows among parallel paths of a workflow application Since workflow applications often process big data, the book explores the dynamic management of data with various storage constraints during workflow execution. It addresses several practical problems related to data handling, including data partitioning for parallel processing next to service selection and scheduling, processing data in batches or streams, and constraints on data sizes that can be processed at the same time by service instances. Illustrating several workflow applications that were proposed, implemented, and benchmarked in a real BeesyCluster environment, the book includes templates for multidisciplinary workflow applications that readers can use in a wide range of contexts.

In this study, the interaction of cisplatin (1) and two potential antitumoral Pt(II) complexes (2 and 3) with a model DMPC bilayer was investigated by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and MD simulations in order to understand its implication for the different antitumoral properties shown by the three complexes. In particular, 31P, 13C and 2H solid state NMR experiments were performed to obtain information on the phase structure, phase transitions and structural and dynamic changes in the phospholipid bilayer upon interaction with the platinum complexes. On the other hand, MD calculations yielded free energy profiles for the different complexes across the bilayer; the results were analysed to obtain MD predictions on complex distribution with respect to the bilayer, as well as to establish their effects on the conformational equilibrium of the DMPC acyl chains. The combination of NMR and MD approaches highlighted that, whereas the more hydrophilic cisplatin tends to remain in the polar head group region causing a decrease in flexibility of the bilayer, the two new complexes enter into the bilayer. In particular, complex 2 is preferentially located relatively close to the surface, only slightly affecting the bilayer structure and mobility, while complex 3 penetrates more deeply, strongly perturbing the bilayer and giving rise to lateral phase separation.

    2015

In this paper we evaluated the possible application of a passive, optical sensor as an interface for human-smart glasses interactions. The designed proximity sensor is composed of set of photodiodes and the appropriate hardware and software components. First, experiments were performed for the estimations of such parameters as distance to an object, its width and velocity. Achieved results were satisfactory. Therefore, next, a set of static and dynamic hand gestures was proposed together with the related recognition method. The method was verified during experiments with volunteers. Experiments have shown that in appropriate lighting conditions it is possible to detect static and dynamic simple hand gestures using inexpensive and computationally efficient sensor. These features enable the use of such a sensor as one of the smart glasses interfaces.

Recently, different smart glasses solutions have been proposed on the market. The rapid development of this wearable technology has led to several research projects related to applications of smart glasses in healthcare. In this paper we propose a general architecture of the system enabling data integration for the recognized person. In the proposed system smart glasses integrates data obtained for the recognized patient from health care information systems, from devices connected to the patient and from the patient himself. The data integration is possible, if proper patient recognition procedure is used. Therefore, we evaluated three identification methods based on face recognition and using the recognition of graphical markers (i.e. QR-codes and proposed color-based codes). The results show that it is possible to obtain reliable and fast recognition results during the video acquisition by the smart glasses camera.

    2015 POLYMER TESTING

This paper provides some new insights into the mechanism of interaction and modifications in thermoplastic composites based on low density polyethylene (LDPE), ground tire rubber (GTR) and non-polar elastomer. The composites were prepared using a co-rotating twin-screw extruder at variable LDPE/GTR ratio and constant elastomer content. Two types of commercial elastomer were applied: styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) block copolymers (Kraton®) with different topologies (linear/branched) and partially cross-linked butyl rubbers (Kalar®) with different Mooney viscosities. Processing characteristics, static mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation at break, hardness), dynamic mechanical properties, thermal properties and morphology of the resulting thermoplastic composites were investigated. Microstructure analysis shows that modification of LDPE/GTR composites with non-polar elastomers caused encapsulation of GTR particles within the elastomer phase. This phenomenon has significant influence on macro-behavior of thermoplastic composites based on LDPE/GTR blends. The results indicate that SBS copolymer improves interfacial interactions between GTR and LDPE, which enhances mechanical and thermal properties of the composites. On the other hand, cross-linked butyl rubber showed partial compatibility with LDPE and low compatibility with GTR particles.

  • INTERLABORATORY COMPARISON OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC EMISSION MEASUREMENTS USING FAR AND GTEM TEST SITES UP TO 1 GHz

    2015 Prace Instytutu Elektrotechniki

Electromagnetic emission limiting is one of the basic requirements in the European Directive 2014/30/EU (EMC Directive). Manufacturers often use alternative methods of measurements to make preliminary verification of emission. This paper presents and analyzes problem with comparison between measurements in different test sites: FAR (Fully Anechoic Room) and GTEM (Gigahertz Transverse Electromagnetic cell). FAR is assumed as the reference and GTEM as the alternative method. There are results of measurements carried out in Electrotechnical Institute Gdansk Branch (FAR) and Satel Sp. z o.o. company (GTEM). It is concluded that the results from these two test sites cannot be easily compared or scaled but the measurement in the GTEM was more restrictive for the tested device in wider frequency range.

  • Internationalization of Born Globals from Theoretical Perspective
    • Nelly Daszkiewicz
    2015 Pełny tekst Problemy Zarządzania

The paper discusses the evolution of theoretical approaches towards internationalisation process of firms, especially SMEs. It clarifies the definitions of born global (BG) firm, presents its characteristics and the specifics of its internationalisation process. The objective of this paper is to present internationalisation process of born global firm from theoretical perspective. The article starts with presentation of the oldest approaches towards internationalisation and shows how ongoing changes in the global economic environment have influenced international behaviours of firms and have also changed the researchers’ perception of BGs and their internationalisation process. The article highlights the role of knowledge in BGs’ internationalisation. Due to the magnitude of literature on BGs and their internationalisation, this article does not cover all of them. The article ends with conclusions and points at further opportunities and directions of research.

  • Internet photogrammetry as a tool for e-learning

    • Małgorzata Szumiło
    • Jakub Szulwic
    2015

Along with Internet development, there were interactive applications which allow for remote sensing and photogrammetric analysis. An example of an application that can provide Earth images and make it possible to measure distances in these images is Google Earth. The authors, who have experience from 2001-2015 argue that it is possible and it is important to create more advanced photogrammetric network applications. In this there are solutions presented which can be effectively used in the education process at the level of engineering studies in the fields of geodesy, cartography and photogrammetry. The use of internet photogrammetry is especially valuable in situations where education is carried out in groups of students who participate in activities in forms of remote learning or when the student must carry out homework. Great importance is also associated with the economic aspect of the solution, because the end user (student) obtains access to the system through a standard Web browser, so without the necessity to install the dedicated software or have an individual license. The presented applications use Web browsers and Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and they are used by users in the so-called web applications. In this paper, the authors cite the advantages and limitations of solutions based on internet photogrammetry. They also present the results of experiments which were the basis for their doctoral dissertations in 2003 and 2015.

2015 Pełny tekst DISCRETE APPLIED MATHEMATICS

In this paper we introduce a concept of interval incidence coloring of graphs and survey its general properties including lower and upper bounds on the number of colors. Our main focus is to determine the exact value of the interval incidence coloring number χii for selected classes of graphs, i.e. paths, cycles, stars, wheels, fans, necklaces, complete graphs and complete k-partite graphs. We also study the complexity of the interval incidence coloring problem for subcubic graphs for which we show that the problem of determining whether χii≤4 can be solved in polynomial time whereas χii≤5 is NP-complete

    2015 Pełny tekst HYDROACOUSTICS

The results of the accuracy measurements of phase differencing bathymetric sonar (PDBS) system in shallow waters are presented in the article. The measurement results were compared with the theoretical calculations for sonar system accuracy and international standards for hydrographic surveys. The proposed formulas enable to assess a priori sonar system performance using system quality factor (SQF), which takes into account influence of variable environmental conditions and auxiliary sensors on depth accuracy in a real-life scenario. The proposed SQF can be used in survey planning process to predict the swath width.

    2015 SOLID STATE IONICS

In this paper solid oxide fuel cells operating with dry synthetic biogas have been examined. In order to increase their stability the layers of CuO-CeO2, Cu1.3Mn1.7O4 and Y0.08Sr0.92Ti0.8Fe0.2O3 -δ have been deposited on the Ni-YSZ anode site. These layers should catalyze the internal biogas reforming and prevent the carbon deposition on the anode site. It has been found that CuO-CeO2 and Cu1.3Mn1.7O4 catalysts led to an increase of the stability (at least 7 days) of the fabricated fuel cells powered by biogas, whereas the unmodified fuel cell, as well as the fuel cell with Y0.08Sr0.92Ti0.8Fe0.2O3 -δ catalyst degraded gradually with time. A significant amount of carbon nanofibers has been formed on the catalyst surface after fuel cell test. However, they have not formed in the anode area. The use of CuO-CeO2 and Cu1.3Mn1.7O4 catalysts prevented the carbon deposition on the anode site, and thus the fuel cell degradation was slower when operating with biogas fuel.

Instantaneous impedance changes of 6060 and 6082 type aluminum alloys in pure water, and simulated acid rain poured into the pure water was investigated by dynamic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (DEIS). In this way, the influence of aluminum content on the corrosion behavior of 6060 and 6082 type aluminum alloys immersed in simulated acid rain was determined. The corrosion rate of the alloy decreased with increasing Al content, which may be related to the distribution of the Al‐rich phase. The surface morphology of studied alloys was also examined with scanning electron microscopy.
