    2018 JOURNAL OF NON-CRYSTALLINE SOLIDS

Oxynitride phosphate glasses and glass-ceramics were prepared using new synthesis routes for phosphate glasses. Materials were melted from pre-prepared glass samples in the system Na-Ca-P-O with addition of Mg and/or Si3N4 powders under different preparation conditions. The melting process was conducted at 1000–1500 °C either under air or nitrogen atmosphere to obtain materials with different nitrogen content. Their topography and structure were characterized by Confocal Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and Raman and infrared spectroscopy techniques, while their chemical compositions were examined by Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). All materials prepared under nitrogen atmosphere were found to contain a relative low quantity of nitrogen and high amount of Nb leached from the crucible. The reaction with the Nb crucible was not previously observed for silicon-based oxynitride glasses. The synthesized materials form two groups: glasses and glass-ceramics. The first ones, were prepared under air and nitrogen atmospheres at temperatures up to 1400 °C, and were found to be amorphous and homogeneous. Raman and infrared spectroscopy measurements confirm the presence of amorphous phosphates in the synthesized materials. The samples of the second group were prepared at temperatures above 1400 °C and were found to be translucent and partially crystallized. They contain nanocrystallites of calcium and sodium phosphates including hydroxyapatite (HAp). The thermal properties of samples were studied by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The obtained glass transition temperatures range from about 360 °C to 640 °C and exhibit high values for glass-ceramic materials. Stability is improved in the studied glass-ceramics because of the increased degree of network polymerization of the remaining glassy matrix. The approximate fragility index decreases two times for oxynitride materials compared to the primary glass. The synthesized new materials may be competitive to wellknown bioactive phosphate glasses thanks to their improved stability by Mg, Si, N and Nb doping.

  • INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURE ON THE TYRE ROLLING RESISTANCE

2018 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Temperature is a very important factor controlling rolling resistance of road vehicle tyres. There are at least three different temperatures that may be considered as important factors controlling thermal conditions of the rolling tyre. The most common measure of the thermal conditions during tyre rolling is ambient air temperature. The other two are: pavement temperature and “tyre” temperature. Tyre temperature is the most difficult to establish, as temperatures of different parts of rolling tyres differ considerably, thus there is a problem to obtain representative values. In the authors’ opinion, air temperature is the most universal and reliable parameter to measure. The article presents results obtained in the Technical University of Gdańsk during laboratory and road measurements of different car tyres rolling on different pavements. The knowledge of rolling resistance characteristics is important for modelling car dynamics as well as fuel consumption. It is also necessary to establish proper test conditions in the future standardized on-road method of measuring rolling resistance. The results indicate that generally each tyre and pavement combination is influenced by the air temperature in a unique way, but at the same it is possible to propose some general influence factors that may be used to normalize measurements to the standard temperature of 25 °C.

The aim of this study was to investigate air quality in hairdresser salons, focusing on terpenes determination. Terpenes are known reactive volatile organic compounds that contribute to secondary organic aerosol formation. Those compounds are frequently found in cosmetic products as fragrance agents. Hairdresser salons are special kind of environment, where secondary organic aerosol concentration may be elevated. One hairdresser salon in Gdynia was chosen to carry out preliminary research. Indoor air samples from the salon were collected using diffusive samplers and sorbent tubes, which were later desorbed and analyzed by TD-GC-FID and TD-GC-MS. Determined limonene concentration varied between 6–74 μg m–3.

The electrochemical oxidative treatment of landfill leachates (LLs) containing high amounts of ammonia nitrogen and organic matter was used as a promising method, prior to biological processes, to achieve the final effluent quality that would be acceptable by current regulations. The deposited boron-doped diamond electrodes (BDDs) with different boron doping concentrations (10000, 5000 and 500 ppm of B) were applied as anodes. The results showed that the boron doping level influences the electrochemical activity and selectivity of electrode surface due to a decrease in the sp3/sp2 ratio of the BDD material. Special attention was paid to the oxidation efficiency of organic matter (COD = 4225 mg O2/L, BOD = 366 mg O2/L) and ammonia (2270 mg N-NH4+/dm3) in the investigated LLs. Additionally, bisphenol A (BPA; 1539.6 μg/L), a suspected endocrine disruptor, was studied as a potential indicator of the removal efficiency of micropollutants. It was found that the oxidation of BPA and BOD are correlated with the sp3/sp2 ratio, while a decrease in the sp3/sp2 ratio of the BDD material was associated with the elevated efficiency of N-NH4+ removal. Low pH and the addition of Fe(II) salts suppressed the oxygen evolution reaction, and overcame the mass transport limitation of organics in the case of •OH-mediated oxidation. Regarding the elimination of ammonium nitrogen, lower effectiveness was generally achieved in comparison to the COD removal. The maximum removal of COD and ammonium nitrogen reached 79 and 41%, respectively. These values were much higher than those reported in the previous study involving a single-cell flow reactor. Thus, anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox) processes seem to be a reasonable option as a final step of LL treatment.

  • Influence of the local building tradition on Renaissance architecture in Royal Prussia
    • Piotr Samól
    2018

Contrary to the southern Europe the first signs of Renaissance in northern parts of the Holy Roman Empire as well as in Poland and Lithuania might be observed only at the beginning of the 16th century. Initially, they were created by Italian teams which came from Florence, Rome and the region of Como. One of the most recognizable marks of that process was the transfer of the Italian craftsmen and architectural solutions, e.g. the team of Bartolomeo Berrecci from Florence who built the Sigmund’s Chapel in the capital seat at Wawel Hill (1517-1533). It influenced the architecture on the whole territory of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, where over one hundred similar constructions were erected in the following years. However, the new Renaissance patterns were not so popular in the northern part of the country, where local tradition of brick architecture was still strong. There is no doubt that some kind of conservatism in the application of the Renaissance was caused by the restrictions of the local law which impeded to settle the foreign artists in Prussian cities. The other reason was religious disturbances between Catholics and Protestants who achieved dominant position in Royal and Ducal Prussia in the middle of the 16th century. As a result of that conflict, many catholic churches were then abandoned and recovered to the previous owners after a few decades. The aim of this paper is to present the results of architectural and archaeological investigations which were conducted in years 2017-2018 in mendicant Prussian churches, especially in Barczewo (Wartenburg) and Tczew (Dirchau). Those studies allowed to establish new information about links between Renaissance in Royal Prussia and the local tradition of brick architecture. Moreover, one finds out how Italian patterns might have been promoted by some hierarchs and boycotted when the patron was changing.

Exposure to light is very important for human health. However, the characteristics of the light stimulus and the appropriate timing of such exposure are essential. Studies that have used monochromatic light exposure have shown no systematic patterns for the effects of blue light compared to longer wavelengths. Previous studies have shown that red light exposure increases objective and subjective measures of alertness at night without suppressing nocturnal melatonin or inducing circadian disruption. The present study investigated whether noon time exposure to red light would increase both objective and subjective measures of alertness such as those measured by EEG, cognitive-behavioral performance, and subjective sleepiness. The three lighting conditions were as follows: dim light (< 0.01 lux at cornea), blue light (465 nm, 72 μW/cm2), and red light (625 nm, 18 μW/cm2), both at 40 lux. The results of the EEG data showed an increase in theta power over time in dim light only. In red light, alpha power showed a decrease over time. The impact of red light was observed in the performance measures: The only significant effect was a deterioration in the continuous performance test after red light exposure. Subjective measures of alertness were not affected by light in either condition, in contrast to darkness, when subjects reported greater sleepiness than before. None of the changes in objective measures of alertness induced by red light exposure translated into subjective sleepiness at noon. Thus, we concluded that behavioral effects of light at noon are very limited at best.

  • Influence of the Square Wave Voltage on Dynamical Properties of a Flat Voltammetric Electrode in the Time Domain by the Electrochemical Reversible Reaction
    • Krzysztof Suchocki
    2018

In this article there is a presentation of the analysis of the polarizing voltage shape influencing dynamic properties of voltammetric electrodes when on their surface reversible reaction takes place in the time domain. The electrode polarization with linearly increasing voltage and with a square component, was analyzed. The analysis that were conducted showed that the voltammetric electrode behaves like a first order transducer. Its dynamic properties in the time domain are defined by sensitivity and time constant. The results of the simulations show that these properties are determined by parameters of the voltage polarizing a voltammetric electrode.

    2018

The paper presents the results of the effectiveness analysis for various forms of toll collection on motorway gates and their impact on safety and efficiency of traffic. The results from field tests that were performed on the A1 motorway in Rusocin were used for the analysis. The research included the analysis of the video image of driver behaviour on the way to the toll booths and at toll booths. The PTV VISSIM tool was used to analyse the safety and efficiency of the traffic (microsimulation models of the Rusocin Toll Collection Plaza reflecting various forms of payment). The analysis of speed changes, delays, vehicle queues and driver service time has been made, including the method of toll collection (manual, automatic, hybrid). The analysis of traffic safety was carried out using surrogate measures used in the theory of traffic conflicts, taking into account the trajectory of vehicles movement.

  • Influence of vision measurement system spatial configuration on measurement uncertainty, based on the example of electric traction application

    2018 Pełny tekst MEASUREMENT

Technical diagnostics plays a significant role in ensuring operational reliability of electrified rail transport. The most critical point in the transmission of electric energy to vehicles is the sliding contact of the current collector with the traction network. For this reason, work is currently being carried on new measuring methods, whose appliance allows for more complete diagnostics of the contact line and current collectors, as well as for monitoring the co-operation of these elements. Each measurement method must be analysed for level of uncertainty, so that the obtained measurement results are reliable. This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the influence of the visual measuring method spatial configuration on the obtained level of measurement uncertainty. This method is designed for measurement contact wire displacements. The results of theoretical analysis were verified by a measurement experiment performed with the use of the Last Square Fitting Algorithm. Finally, the results of sample measurement results obtained at the laboratory tests stand, which proved the practical usefulness of the discussed measurement method, were presented.

The main purpose of this research paper was to determine the influence of the wood moisture on the strength and elastic modulus of pine and fir wood specimens subjected to the 4-point bending tests. Six bending tests for each wood species and for two different moisture level have been performed. Then, the advanced statistical analysis of the results has been carried out. On the basis of the obtained results, it has been noted that growth of the wood moisture significantly affects the reduction of the tested strength and elastic modulus. It has been noticed that the values of the bending strength of the wet specimens (the wood moisture approximately 29%) decreased by more than 40% in relation to the dry specimens (the wood moisture approximately 10%).

2018 International Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology

Protective coatings for porous alloys for high temperature use are relatively new materials. Their main drawback is high temperature corrosion. In this work protective coatings based the on Y-precursor infiltrated into the sintered Ni22Cr alloys are studied at 700°C. Effects of the amount of the protective phase on the resulting corrosion properties are evaluated in air and humidified hydrogen. Weight gain of the samples, their open porosities and microstructures are analyzed and compared. Results show, that by the addition of even a minor amount of the Y-precursor corrosion rates can be decreased by a factor of 50.

    2018 Spatial Economic Analysis

The main goal of our article is to bridge the gap in the regional analysis of informal employment in Poland and in particular to indicate the propensity for informal work in the working-age population, to test if informal activities are typical for marginalized people (less educated, unemployed, older) and to identify the regional and spatial heterogeneity in the propensity. We use data from the ‘Human Capital Balance 2010–2014’ survey. Results indicate a strong relationship between the probability of informal work and age, sex and labour force status. Moreover, a strong spatial dependency can be observed.

2018 Pełny tekst PAPERS IN REGIONAL SCIENCE

In our paper we try to combine the theories explaining the prevalence of informal work, using a regional approach. Reviewing the literature, we observe that, there is no evidence to confirm that the relationships that occur in cross-country comparisons remain significant when we use regional data and analyse cross-regional variations. Our general question is therefore whether there is simply more informal work in less-developed regions, as the modernization theory asserts. Our analysis concludes that there is limited correlation between the prevalence of informal work and a region's level of development, whereas there is a significant positive autocorrelation between the extent of informal work in the analysed voivodships in Poland.
