Water and wastewater management, especially in rural areas, greatly affects loads of nutrients discharged to the Baltic Sea. In Poland, this management is unbalanced because of the dispersed development and in many locations con struction of sewerage system is uneconomic or even impossible. For this reason, a significant part of sewage from single-family houses in rural areas must be discharged into domestic sewage systems. The aim of this paper was to analyze the data concerning the Baltic Sea catchment area as well as to present some current results of research on wastewater management mainly in rural areas. Small on-site wastewater treatment plants are usually defined as facilities serving up to 50 people. Depending on the law, their maximum capacity is set at 5 m 3 d_1 (according to the Polish Act of Water Law). In rural areas, treatment wetlands seem to be especially useful as on-site wastewater treatment plants. The study indicates the high efficiency of pollutants removal in treatment wetlands, namely, hybrid treatment wetlands with at least two stages of treatment. High treatment efficiency is very important for the protection of the Baltic Sea. The reliability assessment based on Weibull distributions allows for the risk assessment of exceeding the limit values of pollutants in treated wastewater. Very good reliability was observed for TN and COD (303 and 292 day per year, respectively), while reliability for BOD5 and TSS was weaker (219 and 153 day per year, respectively). Proper design and operation of treatment wetland facilities are important in order to achieve a good quality of effluent in the interests of Baltic Sea protection.

2016 International Journal of Knowledge and Systems Science (IJKSS)

The aim of this article is to present the project framework for constructing a Software Process Simulation Modeling (SPSM) system. SPSM systems can be used as a virtual environment for the selection of methods and tools of project management in IT support organizations. The constructed system simulates the Scrum methodology, including the management processes and the project roles. For the implementation of Scrum processes, the Scrum ontology is proposed and for the competences of the roles of project team members, a fuzzy-logic representation. As a result the authors present the hybrid fuzzy ontological system as well as a prototype built during project work, allowing the initial verification of the proposed solution. The framework of the design processes proposed in the article was verified on the basis of real courses of project management processes in a large IT company.

  • HYDRODYNAMIC THRUST BEARINGS WITH POLYMER LINING
    • Michał Wodtke
    2016 Full text TRIBOLOGIA

Polymeric linings of sliding surfaces of the hydrodynamic bearings have been used successfully for over 50 years. Despite of their long history of operation and research, they have not become wide spread in industrial applications. This fact may be surprising, considering th e conclusions that have been published concerning bearing operation and design. This paper summarizes the current state of the art of the tilting-pad thrust bearings with a polymer lining of pad sliding surfaces. Bearing design and the most commonly used polymeric materials are described. The results of the latest theoretical and experimental researches by both bearing manufacturers and at scientific centres are presented. Observed properties of the bearings with polymer lining were compared to the properties of the bearings covered with Babbitt, which is the most frequently material used as lining for hydrodynamic bearings.

  • Identification of 1H‐indene‐(1, 3, 5, 6)‐tetrol derivatives as potent pancreatic lipase inhibitors using molecular docking and molecular dynamics approach
    • Umesh Kalathiya
    • Monikaben Padariya
    • Maciej Bagiński
    2016 BIOTECHNOLOGY AND APPLIED BIOCHEMISTRY

Pancreatic lipase is a potential therapeutic target to treat diet-induced obesity in humans, as obesity-related diseases continue to be a global problem. Despite intensive research on finding potential inhibitors, very few compounds have been introduced to clinical studies. In this work, new chemical scaffold 1H-indene-(1,3,5,6)-tetrol was proposed using knowledge-based approach, and 36 inhibitors were derived by modifying its functional groups at different positions in scaffold. To explore binding affinity and interactions of ligands with protein, CDOCKER and AutoDock programs were used for molecular docking studies. Analyzing results of rigid and flexible docking algorithms, inhibitors C_12, C_24, and C_36 were selected based on different properties and high predicted binding affinities for further analysis. These three inhibitors have different moieties placed at different functional groups in scaffold, and to characterize structural rationales for inhibitory activities of compounds, molecular dynamics simulations were performed (500 nSec). It has been shown through simulations that two structural fragments (indene and indole) in inhibitor can be treated as isosteric structures and their position at binding cleft can be replaced by each other. Taking into account these information, two lines of inhibitors can further be developed, each line based on a different core scaffold, that is, indene/indole.

  • Identification of category associations using a multilabel classifier
    • Julian Szymański
    • Jacek Rzeniewicz
    2016 EXPERT SYSTEMS WITH APPLICATIONS

Description of the data using categories allows one to describe it on a higher abstraction level. In this way, we can operate on aggregated groups of the information, allowing one to see relationships that do not appear explicit when we analyze the individual objects separately. In this paper we present automatic identification of the associations between categories used for organization of the textual data. As experimental data we used a network of English Wikipedia articles and their associated categories, that have been preprocessed by a dedicated filtering method for noise reduction. The main contribution of the paper is the introduction of the method based on supervised machine learning for mining relations between these categories. We describe existing in the literature category proximity metrics as well as introduce three new ones, based on observing the properties of a multilabel Support Vector Machine classifier. The first metric uses classifier predictions, the second uses its errors, and the third is based on its model. Comparison to the existing state-of-the-art methods, and to manual assessments, confirm that the proposed methods are useful and are more flexible than typical approaches. We show how different metrics allow us to introduce new significant relations between categories. Aggregated results of mining categories’ associations have been used to build a semantic network that shows a practical application of the research. The proposed method for finding associations can be extended with using other approaches than SVM classification, and can find (other than presented in the paper) applications for mining categories in text repositories. Eg.: it can be used for extending the prediction of the rating in recommender systems or as a method of missing data imputation.

  • Identification of Kinematic Excitation Function by the Modal Coordinates Estimation of the System's Dynamics
    • Krzysztof Jan Kaliński
    • Michał Mazur
    2016 Solid State Phenomena

The paper presents a method of the kinematic excitation courses’ identification in excitation points, based on the car road test acceleration at different measurement points. For the purpose of the laboratory fatigue life investigation of contemporary complex structures (e.g. cars bodies) and components of these structures (i.e. cars roofs), only a few first vibration modes are usually taken into account. During real life tests (i.e. road tests), accelerations at the selected points and along the defined directions are recorded and preprocessed appropriately. Subsequently, appropriate information about the measured acceleration allows us to identify such kinematic excitation function on the laboratory stand, whose result is the same as during the real road test. Thanks to the proposed approach, further time-consuming fatigue experiments can be performed on the laboratory stand.

  • Identification of models and signals robust to occasional outliers
    • Janusz Kozłowski
    • Zdzisław Kowalczuk
    2016

In this paper estimation algorithms derived in the sense of the least sum of absolute errors are considered for the purpose of identification of models and signals. In particular, off-line and approximate on-line estimation schemes discussed in the work are aimed at both assessing the coefficients of discrete-time stationary models and tracking the evolution of time-variant characteristics of monitored signals. What is interesting, the procedures resulting from minimization of absolute-error criteria appear to be insensitive to sporadic outliers in the processed data. With this fundamental property the deliberated absolute-error method provides correct results of identification, while the classical least-squares estimation produces outcomes, which are definitely unreliable in such circumstances. The quality of estimation and the robustness of the discussed identification procedures to occasional measurement faults are demonstrated in a few practical numerical tests.

  • IDENTIFICATION OF THE INTERFECE OF LATERAL SLIDE BEARINGS
    • Piotr Bzura
    • Konrad Marszałkowski
    2016

In the paper, the model of slide bearings of motor engine, the metodology of research on this type of bearings and its results are presented measurement standpoint consisting of main elements of Briggs & Stratton 550 serie 10 T 802 model piston motor engine driven by three phase elektric engine is introduced . On the measurement standpoint are measurements were done, needed for specification of proper performance of crank slide bearings performance, operation on smooth friction. The bearing was stressed with variable dynamic forces of constant values and changeable direction. The forces caused change of dislocation of plug (czopa ) versus bearing and so the change in thickness of oil film and alternation of lubrication process. The aim of the paper was to conduct preliminary research, in order to confirm the fact that fixing the moment of transition from smooth friction to boundary friction in crank bearing , responsible for deterioration of bearing's performance, is possible.

  • Ideowa rzeźba architektoniczna. Dom
    • Agnieszka Kurkowska
    2016 Full text
