  • Low Frequency Conducted Emissions of Grid Connected Static Converters
    • Jarosław Łuszcz
    • Robert Smolenski
    2015 IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Magazine

Pulse-width modulated rectifiers are nowadays commonly used for AC to DC power conversion. PWM rectification technology is very effective and allows for bidirectional power flow with the possibility of power factor improvement and low-order harmonic emission limitation. Unfortunately, employed PWM boost topology results with generation of input current harmonic distortions in a frequency range tightly correlated to modulation frequency. PWM carrier frequency and its harmonic components in typical applications are usually located in frequency range from single kHz up to hundreds of kHz. Increase of harmonic emission in this particular frequency range can be disturbing for other sensitive systems, therefore can cause lack of electromagnetic compatibility. Interferences in low frequency range are increasingly frequent EMC issue because of extensive use of low power PWM rectifiers and significant increase of rated power of individual converters, which already reach several MW. Presented comparison of current harmonic emission spectra of PWM rectifiers with relation to classic diode rectifiers is focused on frequency range of 2 to 9 kHz, for which emission limitation rules are currently under development. New class of EMC problems arising in low frequency range in power system are underlined as a result of increased harmonic emission in frequency range of 2 to 9 kHz.

It is not trivial to achieve a good quality diamond-coated fibre interface due to a large difference in the properties and composition of the diamond films (or use coating even) and the optical fibre material, i.e. fused silica. One of the biggest problems is the high temperature during the deposition which influences the optical fibre or optical fibre sensor structure (e.g. long-period gratings (LPG)). The greatest advantage of a linear antenna microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition system (LA MW CVD) is the fact that it allows to grow the diamond layers at low temperature (below 300°C) [1]. High quality nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) thin films with thicknesses ranging from 70 nm to 150 nm, were deposited on silicon, glass and optical fibre substrates [2]. Substrates pretreatment by dip-coating and spin coating process with a dispersion consisting of detonation nanodiamond (DND) in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) has been applied. During the deposition process the continuous mode of operation of the LA MW CVD system was used, which produces a continuous wave at a maximum power of 1.9 kW (in each antenna). Diamond films on optical fibres were obtained at temperatures below 350°C, providing a clear improvement of results compared to our earlier work [3]. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging to investigate the morphology of the nanocrystalline diamond films. The film growth rate, film thickness, and optical properties in the VIS-NIR range, i.e. refractive index and extinction coefficient will be discussed based on measurements on reference quartz plates by using spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE)

Pure SiO2 xerogels and SiO2 xerogels containing SrF2: Eu3+/: Tb3+ crystals were prepared using sol-gel method. Luminescent spectra showed excitation and emission peaks characteristic to Eu3+ and Tb3+ 4f - 4f transitions. ET Tb3+→Eu3+ has been observed. XRD pattern of SiO2 matrix confirmed lack of long range order. Patterns of SiO2-SrF2:Eu3+ and SiO2-SrF2:Tb3+ showed peaks corresponding to SrF2. SEM images have shown agglomerates of particles and presence of pores. FTIR spectra showed bands related to Si-O vibrations and vibrations associated with the OH groups. Thus, SiO2-SrF2 system doped with Eu3+ and Tb3+ could be a potential candidate for LEDs applications. Review of other materials for LED applications is also presented.

In the study of low magnetic fields precision magnetometers working in a differential system are used. Two optically pumped magnetometers working in a differential system allow for precise measuring of disturbances in the magnetic field. In order to attain high accuracy of magnetic field measurement, it is necessary to use appropriate materials for the construction of a magnetometric system, particularly of those located closely to the magnetometric sensor. These materials can disturb the magnetic field.

  • Magnetizability of the relativistic hydrogenlike atom in an arbitrary discrete energy eigenstate: Application of the Sturmian expansion of the generalized Dirac-Coulomb Green function
    • Patrycja Stefańska
2015 Pełny tekst PHYSICAL REVIEW A

The Sturmian expansion of the generalized Dirac--Coulomb Green function [R.\/~Szmytkowski, J.\ Phys.\ B 30 (1997) 825; erratum 30 (1997) 2747] is exploited to derive a closed-form expression for the magnetizability of an arbitrary discrete state of the relativistic one-electron atom with a point-like, spinless and motionless nucleus of charge $Ze$. The result has the form of a double finite sum involving the generalized hypergeometric functions ${}_3F_2$ of the unit argument. Our general expression agrees with formulas obtained analytically earlier by other authors for some particular states of the atom. We present also numerical values of the magnetizability for some excited states of selected hydrogenlike ions with $1{\leqslant}Z{\leqslant}137$, which confirm the correctness of our analytical result.

The aim of the present work was to study magnetoelectric effect (ME) in (BiFeO3)x–(BaTiO3)1x solid solutions in terms of technological conditions applied in the samples fabrication process. The rapidly growing interest in these materials is caused by their multiferroic behaviour, i.e. coexistence of both electric and magnetic ordering. It creates possibility for many innovative applications, e.g. in steering the magnetic memory by electric field and vice versa. The investigated samples of various chemical compositions (i.e. x = 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9) were prepared by the solid-state sintering method under three sets of technological conditions differing in the applied temperature and soaking time. Measurements of the magnetoelectric voltage coefficient ME were performed using a dynamic lock-in technique. The highest value of ME was observed for 0.7BiFeO3–0.3BaTiO3 solid solution sintered at the highest temperature (T = 1153 K) after initial electrical poling despite that the soaking time was reduced 10 times in this case

    2015

The presented work is aimed at utilisation of waste heat in the manner to produce electricity in ORC installation. Therefore the precondition of the study was to use the waste heat available in the form of a stream of hot water at 90°C. Such low enthalpy heat source is rather insufficient to produce a good quality vapour to feed the ORC turbine. That was the incentive to search for the ways of increasing the temperature of the vapour at ORC turbine inlet. In authors opinion the low pressure steam, regarded as waste from various technological processes, fits very well that idea. This paper considers a refinement of an original approach to increase temperature of the vapour of ORC working fluid at the inlet to the turbine through the use of heat from the low-pressure condensing steam. In such way additional heat is used to enhance parameters of steam in the ORC installation. Condensation of steam in the process of heating of ORC working fluid is advantageous also from the exergy destruction point of view. The objective of the present paper is the analysis of operational and thermodynamic parameters of the demonstration facility developed at the Department of Energy and Industrial Apparatus of Gdansk University of Technology. The aim is to obtain the highest level of electricity generation from the flux of hot water with temperature of 90oC. Considered is ethanol as working fluid in ORC with respect to obtain highest output and efficiency of the cycle.

  • Manufacture and research of TPS/PE biocomposites properties

    • Joanna Lenża
    • Krzysztof Formela
    2015 COMPOSITES PART B-ENGINEERING

In this paper the process of native starch preparing for modification by extrusion and manufacture of biocomposites is presented. The first aim of this study was to determine the mixing and granulating condition of native starch to obtain granulated native starch. For mixing and granulation of native starch Intensive Mixer manufactured by Maschinenfabrik Gustav Eirich was used. Mixing and granulation in a single process is a new method of preparation of powders for other processing. The main task of granulation is the elimination of dust emissions and the increase in density of powders. Granules are easy for dosage and more handy for transport and storage than powders, which is important from a technological point of view. The second aim of this study was to manufacture TPS/PE biocomposites. At first thermal modification of waxy maize starch was carried out with the use of a co-rotating twin screw extruder. During extrusion native starches have been deprived of their crystallinity and the obtained starch (TPS) has fully amorphous structure. XRD analysis revealed that semi crystalline phase of native starch after extrusion disappeared. During extrusion crystal structure of native starch is transformed into amorphous structure of thermoplastic starch (TPS), which was confirmed by XRD analysis.

    2015

The rapid development of scanning technology, especially mobile scanning, gives the possibility to collect spatial data coming from maritime measurement platforms and autonomous manned or unmanned vehicles. Presented solution is derived from the mobile scanning. However we should keep in mind that the specificity of laser scanning at sea and processing collected data should be in the form acceptable in Geographical Information Systems, especially typical for the maritime needs. At the same time we should be aware that data coming from maritime mobile scanning constitutes a new approach to the describing of maritime environment and brings a new perspective that is completely different than air and terrestrial scanning. Therefore, the authors, would like to present results of an experiment aimed at testing the possibilities of using mobile scanning at sea. Experiment was conducted in the harbour and the associated environment of neighbouring southern coast of the Baltic Sea.

  • Marka South Coast Baltic jako inicjatywa promocji morskich portów jachtowych południowego wybrzeża Bałtyku
    • Marcin Forkiewicz
2015 Pełny tekst Marketing i Zarządzanie
