  • Rating mathematical models for first-pass of tracer in pCT lung studies
    • Maciej Browarczyk
    • Seweryn Lipiński
    2014

This paper presents a comparison of model based on the Gauss function and the most commonly used Gamma-variate model in perfusion computed tomography (pCT) lung studies. It also verifies whether used model affects value of blood volume parameter. Three mean concentration-time curves were created from actual pCT measurements: arterial input function, blood vessels in lungs and lung parenchyma. On the basis of these mean curves we simulated 1000 concentration-time curves for each type of tissue. We used the Akaike information criterion to evaluate the models. Neither of the compared models showed a clear advantage over the other. The Gauss function showed ability to robust fit to datasets and there is no need to determine experimentally the arrival time. The main conclusion is that the Gauss function can be used as alternative to Gamma-variate function in modelling flow of tracer in lungs pCT.

    The reaction of R2P–P(SiMe3)Li (R = tBu, iPr) with the diimido molybdenum complex [(ArN)2MoCl2·dme] (Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3; dme = 1,2-dimethoxyethane) yielded the side-oncoordinated phosphanylphosphinidene anionic complexes [(2,6-iPr2C6H3N)2Mo(Cl)(η2-P=PR2)]– (7Mo, 8Mo). The thermal decomposition of [(2,6-iPr2C6H3N)2M(Cl)(η2-P=PR2)]–[M = Mo (7Mo), W (8W)] to [(2,6-iPr2C6H3N)2M(Cl)(1,2-η-tBu2P=P–PtBu2)] [M = Mo (3Mo), W (3W)] was investigated by 31P{1H} NMR spectroscopy. The reactions of [(ArN)2MCl2·dme] (Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3; M = Mo, W) with tBu2P–P(Li)–PtBu2 gave molybdenum and tungsten complexes[(2,6-iPr2C6H3N)2-M(Cl)(1,2-η-tBu2P=P–PtBu2)] (3Mo, 3W) bearing an unusual triphosphorus ligand. The solid-state structures of [(2,6-iPr2C6H3N)2Mo(Cl)(η2-P=PtBu2)]– (7Mo), [(2,6-iPr2C6H3N)2-Mo(Cl)(η2-P=PiPr2)]– (8Mo), [(2,6-iPr2C6H3N)2Mo(Cl)(1,2-η-tBu2P=P–PtBu2)] (3Mo) and [(2,6-iPr2C6H3N)2W(Cl)(1,2-η-tBu2P=P–PtBu2)] (3W) were established by single-crystal Xray diffraction analysis.

This article presents a real-time simulator of an agricultural biogas plant. The project contains biogas and biomass circuits simulation, as well as heating circuit simulation with a complete control system and visualization interface of the whole process. The software tool used to simulate the plant work is CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), which enables a user to create and test simulation objects based on fundamental physical laws related to fluid circuits and flows. The research work was concentrated on building simulation object reflecting real plant dynamics in the most precise way that can be achieved with the provided simulation tools. Presented simulation creates a possibility to minimize dangerous and undesirable situations on a real plant by manipulating of control parameters and observing simulated object reaction. The simulation results enable to optimize biogas production and operation costs. The simulator is intended to be an operator staff training material and can increase the operators’ reliability during plant’s operation. It is an important aspect in biogas plant risk management and it may reduce the requirements for safety instrumented system as well as the cost of their implementation.

  • Reasoning with Projection in Multimodular Description Logics Knowledge Bases
    • Krzysztof Goczyła
    • Aleksander Waloszek
    • Wojciech Waloszek
2014 Communications in Computer and Information Science

We present an approach to reasoning with projection, i.e. reasoning in which it is possible to focus on a selected part of knowledge (by neglecting some non-interesting fragments). Projection is most useful for modular knowledge bases in which only parts of knowledge have to be exchanged or imported to other modules. In this paper we present an optimized method of reasoning over results of projection. The tests indicate that the method can drastically reduce the time of inferencing, enabling our reasoner to efficiently work with modular knowledge bases embracing several dozens of modules, even in the presence of cyclic interrelationships between them.

  • Receiver-side fingerprinting method based on quaternion sandwich product
    • Bartosz Czaplewski
    • Roman Rykaczewski
2014 Przegląd Telekomunikacyjny + Wiadomości Telekomunikacyjne

In this paper a new receiver-side fingerprinting method for color images is proposed. The proposed method belongs to the group of Joint Fingerprinting and Decryption (JFD) methods. Each component of the color image is represented as a point in 3D space, which is formed by 3 color channels. Encryption and fingerprinting can be interpreted as rotation, scaling and translation of these points. Calculations are performed using quaternion algebra. The experimental results show that the proposed method is robust against collusion attacks.

  • Recycling of Photovoltaic Solar Cells and Modules - Te State - Of - Art
    • Ewa Klugmann-Radziemska
    2014

In comparison to other energy producing techniques, photovoltaics (PV) is one of the most promising options: no emission of any matter into the environment during operation; extremely long operation period (estimated average: 25 years), minimum maintenance, robust technique, aesthetic aspects. The use of photovoltaics is rapidly increasing, and the respective market is developing accordingly. Although PV manufacturing equipment is now excluded from the scope of RoHS, according to the Kyoto Protocol and the EU Directives WEEE and RoHS the use of hazardous substances in electric/electronic devices has to be reduced stepwise to approximately zero level. Furthermore, a total recycling of nearly all materials involved is aimed. Thus, major attention is directed to avoidance of environmental pollution through combustion or landfill, to regain valuable material, to promote the development and use of renewable energy sources. As the lifetime of PV cells themselves is much longer than that of PV modules and the manufacturing process of cells requires much energy consumption, the reuse of base material of the cells is economically justified. The aim of this work was to develop and evaluate existing methods of PV cells and modules recycling. The article discusses the main outcomes and analyses the significance of recycling in relation to the environmental profile of the production and total life cycle of photovoltaic cells and modules.

    2014 JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY

Monitoring contamination in river water is an expensive procedure, particularly for developing countries where pollution is a significant problem. This study was conducted to provide a pollution monitoring strategy that reduces the cost of laboratory analysis. The new monitoring strategy was designed as a result of cluster and regression analysis on field data collected from an industrially influenced river. Pollution sources in the study site were coal mining, metallurgy, chemical industry, and metropolitan sewage. This river resembles those in other areas of the world, including developing countries where environmental monitoring is financially constrained. Data were collected on variability of contaminant concentrations during four seasons at the same points on tributaries of the river. The variables described in the study are pH, electrical conductivity, inorganic ions, trace elements, and selected organic pollutants. These variables were divided into groups using cluster analysis. These groups were then tested using regression models to identify how the behavior of one variable changes in relation to another. It was found that up to 86.8% of variability of one parameter could be determined by another in the dataset. We adopted 60, 65, and 70% determination levels (R2) for accepting a regression model. As a result, monitoring could be reduced by 15 (60% level) and 10 variables (65 and 70%) out of 43, which comprises 35 and 23% of the monitored variable total. Cost reduction would be most effective if trace elements or organic pollutants were excluded from monitoring because these are the constituents most expensive to analyze.
