    2016

This paper identifies formation interfaces that would appear to be "weak interfaces", in the Jurassic, Early- Cretaceous Vaca Muerta formation, in the Neuquén Basin, Argentina. Significant distribution of the weak interfaces was observed including contacts between volcanic ash layers of varying thicknesses, calcite-filled veins, and contacts between lithology changes, such as between argillaceous mudstone and mottled carbonates. The paper shows mineral and organic matter constituents of selected interfaces and suggests that interface weakness depends on certain composition and morphology of mineral and organic constituents associated with the interfaces. The understanding presented in this paper of the composition of interfaces is a first step toward both identifying the location and frequency of the weak interfaces throughout the formation and ultimately of determining the shear strength of these interfaces. These interfaces have a significant effect on hydraulic fractures used for completion stimulation.

but also as medicinal substance in folk medicine. Traditionally, it was used to treat various conditions, mostly anaemia and chronic fatigue. This study has been designed to establish the content of metallic elements (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper) in sap collected from eight different species (silver birch, downy birch, hornbeam, Norway maple, boxelder maple, black walnut, black alder and white willow) and to identify which sap has mineral content which would be most beneficial for human health. We measured concentrations of calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and zinc on an atomic absorption spectrometer equipped with single-element, hollow cathode lamps and an air/acetylene burner. The content of copper was determined using an atomic absorption spectrometer with Zeeman correction equipped with an electrothermal atomizer and argon as inert gas. White willow sap was determined to have the highest concentrations of magnesium, zinc, calcium and potassium. Moreover, this sap contained the lowest concentration of sodium among all the tree species. The sap with the lowest detected concentration of the metallic elements originated from black alder and boxelder. In conclusion, tree sap can be a valuable source of metallic elements, namely copper, zinc and magnesium, in human diet. Tree sap tapped from white willow is the most valuable in terms of its mineral content. Moreover, the most popular sap of sliver birch has proven to be a rich source of magnesium and zinc.

Municipal solid waste (MSW) contains mineral materials which are seldom considered as a potential resource. Currently, the waste management sector pays attention to recyclable parts, biodegradable material, waste-to-energy fraction, and residues after waste reuse and recycle. In contrast, this study focus as on the mineral matter in MSW. The aim was to analyze and discuss the sources of mineral matter in MSW, the impact which the minerals have on waste management technologies, and finally, the possibility to recycle the mineral matter. The contribution of inorganic matter in the MSW stream is significant (about 20 wt.%). In the years 2012–2015, the average content of mineral matter in mixed MSW in Poland ranged from 16 wt.% to 36 wt.%, and the content of organic in MSW ranged from 20 wt.% to 42 wt.%. Minerals in MSW have rather negative impact on waste management technologies and their final products, and can be sorted out from the MSW stream, either in the households or in a central sorting line. However, in central collection and separation systems it is difficult to obtain a mineral matter fraction in subsequent processing steps due to technological limitations (inefficiency of devices), high degree of waste fragmentation and pollution of mineral matter with other waste. This indicates a hampered ability to separate minerals in a form available for reuse, so an effective system should be based on improved segregation at the source.

    2016 Pełny tekst GEOMETRIAE DEDICATA

Let M be a smooth compact and simply-connected manifold with simply-connected boundary ∂M, r be a fixed odd natural number. We consider f, a C1 self-map of M, preserving ∂M . Under the assumption that the dimension of M is at least 4, we define an invariant Dr(f;M,∂M) that is equal to the minimal number of r-periodic points for all maps preserving ∂M and C1-homotopic to f. As an application, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a reduction of a set of r-periodic points to one point in the C1-homotopy class.

    2016 Pełny tekst HYDROACOUSTICS

The knowledge of the location, shape and other characteristics of spatial objects in the coastal areas has a significant impact on the functioning of ports, shipyards, and other water-infrastructure facilities, both offshore and inland. Therefore, measurements are taken of the underwater part of the waterside zone, which means the bottom of water and other underwater objects (e.g. breakwaters, docks, etc.), and objects above the water, such as the above-water part of the waterside, breakwaters, hydraulic constructions, and other objects of the waterside infrastructure. In this paper, a project of a mobile inventory system for hydrotechnical objects using data from multiple sensors operating simultaneously will be presented. The aim of the project is to elaborate a mobile underwater scanning system which could be applied in various works requiring precise, detailed and coherent, underwater and above-water measurement, especially in areas associated with surveying, inspection and monitoring of objects in coastal areas. To elaborate the concept of the system, analysis concerning existing methods of precise underwater and above-water measurement, as well as the measuring equipment available, was carried out. The results of the research were used to develop the concept of a mobile system equipped with underwater laser scanning and acoustic positioning. The technology demonstration was developed using a specially-built laboratory environment that simulates hydrotechnical infrastructure with access to GPS data. The final stage of the project will consist of testing the system in open waters.

    2016

The article presents a summary of several years (2009-2015) of studies on the application of mobile satellite Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) measurements in the field of designing and operation of railways. These studies have been conducted by an interdisciplinary research team from the Gdansk University of Technology and the Gdynia Maritime University. Mobile satellite GNSS measurements are taken during a ride (through the railroad) by the measuring train consist of motor car with a trailed double axles platform bogies on which the GNSS receivers were installed. The authors described the adopted methodology of the carried out measurements of the rail and tram tracks. The problem of an accuracy of satellite positioning measurements has been discussed. The authors proposed a method that makes it possible to assess quantitatively the accuracy of the research implemented over years. New concepts were introduced, such as: GNSS positioning networking service availability, reliability and continuity based on the theory of reliability. Using a developed mathematical model they recounted the results of four archival measurement campaigns of years: 2009-2015. The studies have shown that the number of used satellite systems as well as support for GNSS measurements with the inertial system are important from the point of view of the accuracy of the results.

  • Mobility management solutions for current IP and future networks
    • Józef Woźniak
    2016 Pełny tekst TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

Enormous progress in the design of portable electronic devices allowed them to reach a utility level comparable to desktop computers, while still retaining their mobility advantage. At the same time new multimedia services and applications are available for IP users. Unfortunately, the performance of base IP protocol is not satisfactory in mobile environments, due to lack of handover support and higher layer mobility management mechanisms. In this paper, we outline the most important current methods of handling mobility in IP networks that are expected to play an important role in the future (covering the following ISO–OSI layers: 2+, 3, 3+, 4 and 7 of mobility solutions), as well as describe the newly proposed methods

    2016

Modal analysis of isolated open planar elliptical patch placed on dielectric slab is presented in the paper. It applies concept of Illuminating Modes which is formulated for the case of two-side opened structure. The current on patch is expanded in basis functions in form of Mathieu radial and angular functions. The spectrum of excited modes for exemplary planar resonators is presented and discussed using the concept of power of single current mode and power of total current resulting from plane wave illumination of the structure. The corresponding radiation patterns are also presented and discussed.

2016 Pełny tekst Advances in Science and Technology Research Journal

The aim of this article is to present the results of a numerical modal analysis of two actual structures of timber frame buildings and the different behaviour due to the used insulation material. One model of the timber structure was filled with mineral wool, while the other with polyurethane foam. During the modal analysis, eigenvalues for both models have been determined. The results of the analysis clearly show the increase of stiffness and damping properties of skeletal constructions achieved by the use of polyurethane foam as the skeleton filling. The numerical model was based on prior experimental test on real scale single frame elements, therefore the result can be assumed to be adequate.

This paper presents a model of an integration bus used in the design of Smart Cities system architectures. The model of such a bus becomes necessary when designing high-level architectures, within which the silo processes of the organization should be seen from the perspective of its ontology. For such a bus to be used by any city, a generic solution was proposed which can be implemented as a whole or in part depending on the requirements posed by those cities with respect to the construction of such buses. The work is divided into four main parts. The first part presents a model of high-level architectural design processes, using ontologies and a data integration bus, which constitutes the generalized experiences of the authors drawn from the design processes of Smart Cities systems. The second part contains a description of the environment in which Smart Cities systems are developed, illustrated with two guidelines and the implementation processes of these guidelines. In the third part, two components of that environment are identified: the data integration bus and the ontologies of city processes. This is done to demonstrate how Smart Cities systems are designed and to show the processes of the permeation of data and the ontologies of city processes in the creation of a high-level architecture. The fourth section contains a description of how the proposed model is applied in the construction of a common integration bus for data and ontologies. The paper summary presents recommendations concerning the applicability of the proposed model.
