  • Al-DIAMOND SCHOTTKY TUNNEL DIODES WITH BARRIER HEIGHT CONTROL
    • Krzysztof Zwolski
    2013

Few-nanometer-thick very highly boron-doped p-type layers were fabricated at metal-semiconductor interfaces of Schottky barrier diodes formed with aluminum on polycrystalline diamond. Preliminary results show that hermionically-assisted tunneling mechanism results in lower voltage drops at forward biasing of these diodes than expected for the Al-diamond metal-semiconductor potential barrier B. The effective barrier height Bpeff can be engineered with changing the thickness of the boron-doped layer grown in a process of microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) at the top of the diamond layer.

    • Andrzej Kwiatkowski
2013 Pełny tekst Zeszyty Naukowe Wydziału Elektrotechniki i Automatyki Politechniki Gdańskiej

  • All graphs with paired-domination number two less than their order
    • Włodzimierz Ulatowski
    2013 Pełny tekst Opuscula Mathematica

Let G=(V,E) be a graph with no isolated vertices. A set S⊆V is a paired-dominating set of G if every vertex not in S is adjacent with some vertex in S and the subgraph induced by S contains a perfect matching. The paired-domination number γp(G) of G is defined to be the minimum cardinality of a paired-dominating set of G. Let G be a graph of order n. In [Paired-domination in graphs, Networks 32 (1998), 199-206] Haynes and Slater described graphs G with γp(G)=n and also graphs with γp(G)=n−1. In this paper we show all graphs for which γp(G)=n−2.

    2013

The approach of system thinking is completely different from traditional forms of analysis. Even the ancient meaning of word analysis is “a breaking up”. Set of Experience Knowledge Structure is an atomic record of decision event that can be grouped together and form some form of decision DNA of an organization. The question that this paper is trying to answer in how those concepts can be merged.

  • Alternative Energy: Photovoltaic Modules and Systems
    • Ewa Klugmann-Radziemska
    2013

Use of solar energy does not contribute to global warming. The light-to-current conversion (photovoltaic conversion) takes place within solar cells, which in most cases are made of silicon. Solar module consists of many solar cells, which are electrically connected and placed between glass or Tedlar® and framed by an aluminium frame. A number of solar modules and other components form photovoltaic systems. In this entry, a brief overview of the construction of solar modules and systems is presented.

    2013 Pełny tekst TETRAHEDRON

Imidazo[5,1-f][1,2,4]triazin-4(3H)-ones, as isosteres of purine, are of interest for pharmaceutical research as potential substrates for the synthesis of cGMP-PDE5 inhibitors. We present a novel, alternative method for the synthesis of imidazotriazinones, that differs from the previously reported ones with respect to the method of construction of the triazinone ring in the molecule. The key step in our approach is condensation of an appropriate a-keto-ester with amidrazones, leading to the triazinone heterocycle. Several different substituted imidazolo-triazinones have been synthesized in this manner.

    2013 SENSORS AND ACTUATORS B-CHEMICAL

.A boron-doped diamond (BDD) sensor is proposed for effective detection of chemical oxygen demand (COD) by means of amperometric technique. Boron-doped diamond thin films, acting as active sensors, were deposited on both silicon wafer and glassy carbon (GC) substrates by microwave plasma assisted chemical vapour deposition. SEM micrographs showed that BDD–Si displays triangle-faceted crystallites ca. 0.5–3 μm in size, while BDD–GC has triangle-faceted crystallites ranging from 0.5 to 3 μm and also a small amount of square-faceted grains 0.5–1 μm in size. The structure of BDD was confirmed by broad Raman bands centred at 483 cm−1 and 1216 cm−1. Cyclic voltammograms were measured in tetrabutylammonium perchlorate/dimethyl sulfoxide solution to determine chemical oxygen demand by amperometric technique. The reduction of oxygen at boron-doped diamond predominantly involves the one electron reduction of oxygen to superoxide. The reduction of oxygen on BDD–Si and BDD–GC was found to be quasi-reversible (ΔE = 59 − 100 mV). The lowest detection limit was about 0.9 mg l−1. Two different types of electrochemical behaviour were observed at BDD–Si and BDD–GC electrodes which indicates a complexity of electroreduction of oxygen on the BDD surface.

    • Grzegorz Blakiewicz
    • Jacek Jakusz
    • Stanisław Szczepański
    • Robert Piotrowski
2013 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS I-REGULAR PAPERS

A new approach to an analog ultra-low power medium-resolution vision chip design is presented. The prototype chip performs low-level image processing algorithms in real time. Only a photo-diode, MOS switches and two capacitors are used to create an analog processing element (APE) that is able to realize any convolution algorithm based on a full 3x3 kernel. The proof-of-concept circuit is implemented in 0.35 µm CMOS technology, and contains a 64x64 SIMD matrix with embedded APEs. The matrix dissipates less than 0.3 mW (less than 0.1 µW per APE) of power under 3.3 V supply, and its image processing speed is up to 100 frames/s.

  • An Analysis of Uncertainty and Robustness of Waterjet Machine Positioning Vision System
    • Damian Dziak
    • Bartosz Jachimczyk
    • Wlodek Kulesza
2013 Pełny tekst Elektronika Ir Elektrotechnika

The paper presents a new Automatic Waterjet Positioning Vision System (AWPVS) and investigates components of workpiece positioning accuracy. The main purpose of AWPVS is to precisely identify the position and rotation of a workpiece placed on a waterjet machine table. Two webcams form a basis for the system, and constitute its characteristics. The proposed algorithm comprises various image processing techniques to assure a required identification precision. To validate the PVS identification quality, synthetic images were applied under various conditions. The analysis ascertains dependence of an object detection rate and accuracy on a size of cropping frame. Experimental results of the proposed PVS prototype prove that a combination of the vision algorithm and webcams is an alternative to dedicated expensive industrial vision systems. The two main components of AWPVS uncertainty, a machine component and PSV component are discerned and estimated.

  • An application of simulation model of fuel consumption in diagnostic system of wheeled tractors

    • Ryszard Michalski
    2013

An application of computer controlled fuel injection systems in vehicle engines and growing demands concerning toxic substances emission and fuel consumption was a main reason for OBD (On Board Diagnosis) development. In spite of a great technological development, only some tractors are equipped in diagnostic systems. On board diagnostic is strongly connected with emission demands and does not concern other important vehicle functions. In the developed mechatronic diagnostic system, based on generated consequences, four groups of defects are accepted: functional (uf), which inhibit performance, exhaust (ue), which causes increase toxic emissions, that jeopardize driving safety (us) and defects that affect engine performance (ud). The diagnostic system consists of a board computer with specialized programs, acquisition data modules working in CAN net with protocol DeviceNet, measuring sensors and actuators. In the paper accepted assumptions, a structure of mechatronic diagnostic system, applied model of fuel consumption and organization of a diagnostic program is presented.

2013 Pełny tekst Pomiary Automatyka Robotyka

The paper presents a description of functioning of a platform supporting the detection of obstructive diseases in the respiratory system education process. A 16-parameter model of the respiratory system simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink environment was set in the role of the tested patient. It has been linked to the control layer, developed in the LabVIEW environment, using the SIT library (Simulation Interface Toolkit). This layer is responsible for the modification of the model’s parameters and the generation of the results of the respiratory impedance measurements using forced oscillation method. The application is a solution that provides a lot of flexibility in the education of students studying courses related to biomedical engineering and health sciences, and can easily be implemented to work as a problem-oriented e-learning solution.

  • An approach for the response of buildings subjected to impact load after soft-story failure due to earthquake excitation
    • Wojciech Migda
    • Robert Jankowski
2013 Pełny tekst SHOCK AND VIBRATION

he soft-story failure is one of the most typical types of damage observed in buildings during earthquakes. The failure of an intermediate soft story of a structure results in large impact loading acting on the lower floors due to the fall of the upper stories. The aim of the present paper is to study the behavior of the structural members exposed to such extreme load conditions occurring under ground motion excitation. Special attention is paid to investigate the influence of the degradation of horizontal stiffness of columns on the response of the building during earthquake. The results of the study show that the stiffness degradation of building columns, due to impact caused by the fall of the upper stories, may have a considerable influence on the structural response. Moreover, the results clearly indicate that the time of impact plays a substantial role in the overall behavior of the building suffering from the soft-story failure. It has been shown that the structural response may be increased significantly if impact takes place when the building is in the range of its peak deformations during the earthquake, especially when the structure is just approaching the extreme position.
