  • Analysis of distance measurement errors in CW FM sonar with MLS code modulation
    • Andrzej Jedel
    • Jacek Marszal
    • Roman Salamon
    2017 Pełny tekst HYDROACOUSTICS

Although used in the classic silent sonar, the CW FM sounding signal has a major flaw which is its inaccuracy in determining the distance to a target. The authors of the article have developed a concept of silent sonar using frequency modulation signals switched by pseudorandom codes, already discussed in their previous work. This article presents a detailed analysis of errors in CW FM sonar with pseudo-random sequence code modulation confronted with errors which occur in similar sonar without code modulation.

  • Analysis of features of stainless steels in dissimilar welded joints in chloride inducted corrosion
    • Santina Topolska
    • Jerzy Łabanowski
    2017

Stainless steels of femtic-austenitic microstructure that means the duplex Cr-Ni-Mo steels, in comparison with austenitic steel includes less expensive nickel and has much better mechanical properties with good formability and corrosion resistance, even in environments containing chloride ions. Similar share of high chromium ferrite and austenite, which is characterized by high ductility, determines that the duplex steels have good crack resistance at temperatures up to approximately -40°C. The steels containing approximately 22% Cr, 5% Ni, 3% Mo and 0.2% N crystallizes as a solid solution δ, partially transforming from the temperature of about 1200°C to 850°C into the phase α. The stable structure of considered steels, at temperatures above 850°C, is ferrite, and at lower temperatures the mixture of phase γ+α +σ. The two-phase structure α+γ the duplex steel obtains after hyperquenching at the temperature of stability of the mixture of α+γ phases, and the share of the phases depends on the hyper quenching attributes. Hyperquenching in water, with a temperature close to 1200°C, ensures the instance in the microstructure of the steel a large share of ferrite and a small share of the high chromium austenite. This causes the increase of strength properties and reducing the plasticity of the steel and its resistance ability to cracking and corrosion. Slower cooling from the mentioned temperature, for example in the air, enables the partial transformation of the a phase into the γ one (α → γ) and increasing the share of austenite in the steel structure. It leads to improvement of plasticity properties. In the paper are presented the results of investigations of heteronymous welded joints of duplex steel and austenitic one. The results include the relation between the chemical composition of steels and their weldability.

  • Analysis of guided wave propagation in adhesive joints of steel rods
    • Erwin Wojtczak
    • Magdalena Rucka
    2017 Pełny tekst Diagnostyka

The aim of the study is the elastic wave propagation in adhesive joints of metal rods that are one of the simplest kind of glue connections. They are consisted of two metal members and an adhesive layer joining two parts together. The analysis is directed to technical diagnostics of such type of connections. Longitudinal and transversal guided waves were excited in prepared joints. Signals of propagating waves were registered in a couple of points by means of PZT plate sensors. Butt and single lap joints were tested. Single rod was also investigated to compare with adhesive joints. There were two approaches applied for both types of connections: experimental investigations and FEM analysis. In the study, the possibility of the application of guided waves in diagnostics of adhesive joints of metal rods was analysed.

  • Analysis of Induced Voltages and Power Losses in High Voltage Power Cables for Selected Methods of Cables Sheaths Bonding
    • Stanisław Czapp
    • Krzysztof Dobrzyński
    • Jacek Klucznik
    • Zbigniew Lubośny
    2017 Pełny tekst Acta Energetica

Power is increasingly supplied to city centres with 110 kV cable lines. This is a convenient way to supply power, and practically the only one possible in areas of dense urban development. A high-voltage cable contains a coaxial metallic sheath, in which in normal operation and in fault conditions (during short-circuits) significant line-to-earth voltages can be induced, which threatens electric shock and/or damage to the cable’s outer non-conductive sheath. These voltages depend on the earthing/bonding of the cable’s sheaths, and on the cable configuration. These voltages induce currents, which, in turn, cause additional power losses in the cable. The article presents multivariate analysis of the voltages induced in a selected cable line in steady-state condition. Single-point bonding of sheaths has been discussed, as well as their both-ends bonding, transposition, and transposition of cores (conductors). For each case, the losses of active power in this line have been calculated.

  • Analysis of measurement uncertainty for contact-less method used to measure the position of catenary contact wire, performed with the use of Monte Carlo method
    • Jacek Skibicki
    • Mikołaj Bartłomiejczyk
    2017 MEASUREMENT

Currently the majority of main railway lines in Europe are electrified, and electric trains have the biggest share in the entire amount of rail transport. Reliability of electrified railways is closely related to the issue of supplying traction vehicles with energy. The problems connected with diagnostics of energy consumption node, namely the contact line and the current collector, are therefore of fundamental importance for maintaining the high reliability level of electrified rail transport. The paper presents a novel diagnostic method of railway traction catenary using image analysis. Verification of the uncertainty of this method was carried out. For this purpose, a simulation model based on the Monte Carlo method. The influence of measurement uncertainty of input parameters on the accuracy of the method was investigated.

  • Analysis of odor interactions in ternary gas mixtures using electronic nose
    • Bartosz Szulczyński
    • Jacek Gębicki
    • Jacek Namieśnik
    2017

In recent years there has been a noticeable increase in interest in the use of electronic noses in analytical chemistry. These devices perform a holistic analysis of the gas mixtures composition, without the separation and identification of its individual components. For this reason e-noses are increasingly replacing the conventional olfactometers, due to the significantly shorter analysis time and possible automation. In the work the authors attempt to analyze odor interactions in ternary gas mixtures using the electronic nose. Obtained results were compared with sensory analysis results and theoretical values (calculated using perceptual Zwaardemaker model). As a result of the studies, it was found that it is possible to use e-noses instead of olfactometers because the areas of odor interactions determined by the instrumental method overlap to the areas indicated by the sensory panel.

  • ANALYSIS OF POSSIBILITIES FOR THE USE OF VOLUME-DELAY FUNCTIONS IN THE PLANNING MODULE OF THE TRISTAR SYSTEM
    • Jacek Oskarbski
    • Kazimierz Jamroz
    • Leszek Smolarek
    • Marcin Zawisza
    • Karol Żarski
    2017 Pełny tekst Transport Problems

Travel time is a measure commonly used for traffic flow modelling and traffic control. It also helps to evaluate the quality of traffic control systems in urban areas. Traffic control systems that use traffic models to predict changes and disruptions in vehicle flows have to use vehicle speed-prediction models. Travel time estimation studies the effects of traffic volumes on a street section at an average speed. The TRISTAR Integrated Transport Management System, currently being deployed across the Tri-City (Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia), is almost completed and data obtained from the System can be useful for the development of prediction models. A procedure for travel speed model selection for the Tri-City street network is presented in this paper. Matching of chosen volume-delay functions to the data obtained from the TRISTAR has been tested. Analyses have shown insufficient matching of functions that does not justify the possibility of their use in traffic control due to variability in different conditions of traffic, weather and, in the case of an incident, which justifies the need for further research aimed at satisfying matching of functions depending on the above-mentioned factors.

  • Analysis of Properties of an Active Linear Gesture Sensor
    • Krzysztof Czuszyński
    • Jacek Rumiński
    • Jerzy Wtorek
2017 Pełny tekst Metrology and Measurement Systems

Basic gesture sensors can play a significant role as input units in mobile smart devices. However, they have to handle a wide variety of gestures while preserving the advantages of basic sensors. In this paper a user-determined approach to the design of a sparse optical gesture sensor is proposed. The statistical research on a study group of individuals includes the measurement of user-related parameters like the speed of a performed swipe (dynamic gesture) and the morphology of fingers. The obtained results, as well as other a priori requirements for an optical gesture sensor were further used in the design process. Several properties were examined using simulations or experimental verification. It was shown that the designed optical gesture sensor provides accurate localization of fingers, and recognizes a set of static and dynamic hand gestures using a relatively low level of power consumption.

In this study we present analysis of the impact of Galileo observations on the ZTD and tropospheric gradients estimation. The tropospheric parameters were obtained in various scenarios, which differ from each other only in used satellite systems: Galileo-only, GPS-only, GPS/Galileo, GPS/GLONASS and GPS/GLONASS/Galileo. Then, comparative analysis between Galileo-only solution and the other ones, was carried out. As a reference, the combined EPN solution was adopted. Analysed period covers two time spans: one year (02.2016-01.2017) and nearly EOC (10.2016-01.2017). Results shows standard deviation of Galileo solution at the level of 6 mm (w.r.t. reference solution), which is higher than the other ones. However, adding a Galileo observations can cause decreasing of solution standard deviations, which lead to the higher quality. A positive impact of new standard of antennas calibrations (IGS14) on Galileo ZTD bias standard deviation was also noticed. At the end some discussion about gradients estimation are presented.

  • Analysis of Transparent Concrete as an Innovative Material Used in Civil Engineering
    • Monika Zielińska
    • Albert Ciesielski
2017 Pełny tekst IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering

Since the dawn of history concrete has been, right behind stone and brick, one of the oldest building materials. The ancient Romans took advantage of its opportunities. They constructed amazing architectural objects, which survived centuries as whole buildings or parts of them. Concrete is so ubiquitous, that when we are walking in a newer districts of cities we are virtually surrounded by concrete from everywhere. Sometimes we do not realize in how many cases and various ways concrete is used in towns and cities. As we know, human curiosity and quest for newer and newer solutions and capabilities does not leave such amazing material as concrete alone. There are many varieties of concrete, depending on what people want to achieve. By changing its chemical composition, technological process and adding various other materials, we receive various types of concrete. We use them to create durable supporting structures, a variety of concrete which is resistant to constant moisture or different chemical types. Additionally, some aspects of aesthetics in architecture are made with the help of concrete
